Does the Phoenix Champion "technically" do nothing?

That's what I get for making up examples without looking at the cards. I thought they were after you win.

Yeah - but I'm with you on this. The wording of Display of Power is odd. If they intended to give the choice of activating the ring simply stating "Then, you may resolve that ring's effect." At this point, the only thing I can see from the wording "as if you won the conflict" is to give you the choice - as the winner does choose whether to resolve the ring effect or not.

It could also simply be superfluous text and you must resolve the ring effect when you use Display of Power, even if it is a detriment to you.

As for Toturi / Hotaru - I'm certain the desired effect is that they resolve that ring's effect "as if you were the attacking player." and will receive errata. It makes little sense otherwise :\

Guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully someone from the inside will see this thread and say something, though I believe FFG don't actually check their own forums. Which means that they won't see my write that that is an absurd policy to have.

They do however, see the Discord server. This and other issues are discussed at length.

So we'll get a ruling..eventually.

This is in the Unofficial FAQ I have been compiling.
I was hoping the Rules Forum here would be open soon, but I might just create a thread in the morning. (Getting late Down Under).

I have a 5 month old daughter.
It's 2 hours past my bedtime. :P

If this is the case then: if you display of power a fire ring conflict you could debuff a guy enough to bounce from the province. I don't think that was ffg's intention, though. It's too powerful.

This has been a pleasant and engaging read. Thank you, gentlemen. ?

No, because you use the skill totals calculated in step 3.2.3 (Compare Skill Values) to determine whether the province breaks. You also determine the unopposed status of the conflict in 3.2.3, so playing Fallen in Battle on the only defending character doesn't make it unopposed.

Quote

3.2.5. Break province
If the attacking player won the conflict by an amount equal to or greater than the strength of the attacked province ( in step 3.2.3 ), the province is broken. Rotate the province 180 degrees to indicate this.

I think the wording on display of power is because of cards like seeker of knowledge which add effects to rings and gives the attacker the choice of which effects to resolve. By using the wording it does it's giving the player of display that same choice of which ring effect to resolve. Since Tsukune triggers at a stage where you can no longer add effects to rings, the extra wording is unneeded.

Thanks. I haven't played yet so timing is tricky for me ATM. I get to demo today so i hope to resolve my lingering questions.

Have fun!
