A deck game seems likely. The biggest rumor I've heard is that it is a Star Wars reskin a discontinued warhammer adventure card game. I've not played the original game, but I've only heard good things. I hope that is what it is.

never heard of that game, but if people say it was good we will have to wait and see.

The Warhammer Quest card game was really good. As a card driven, cooperative "dungeon delve", it's not as good as the Arkham Horror LCG, but I'd still buy it in a heart beat. I don't think it's going to be a Warhammer Quest reskin, though. The creators of that game recently put up their own reskinned version on Kickstarter before pulling it and redesigning the mechanics. My understanding is that the creators retained the rights to the actual mechanics. I might be wrong. $30 would be the correct price for something like a "Star Wars Quest" card game.

I'd be surprised if that is the case. Usually in any kind of field that involves design, the design is the property of the company, not the individual.

For example, I'm a software developer and any code I write belongs to the company, not me. If I invented a new algorithm for solving some complex problem at work, I could not leave and use that algorithm somewhere else.

They may be redesigning the mechanics to avoid legal issues.

I believe they redesigned the mechanics because the Kickstarter failed to fund. It seems like the overwhelming community response was that they wanted the game, but not with the "Awful Fantasy" IP. The creators were sticking to Awful Fantasy and likely already had all the art assets, etc in place, so they changed the game.

I just double checked. Adam and Brady Sadler created the game mechanics for Warhammer Quest and licensed them to FFG. FFG combined the mechanics with the Warhammer IP, with the Sadler Bros. help, and Warhammer Quest was born. As of August 15th of this year, Adam Sadler is quoted as saying "We are in talks with a publisher currently." in the context of whether or not a new game with the Warhammer Quest mechanics would be coming out. Unless he was trying to misdirect the community, it's unlikely that he was "in talks" on Aug 15th with a finalized product release on 9/1.

In other words, I'd be absolutely shocked to find that this is a Star Wars version of Warhammer Quest.

Thank you for doing the research. In that case, it looks like that rumor is nothing more than a rumor. Oh well. Hopefully, whatever it is will be fun.

I hope so. I blindly pre-ordered one at each of two different stores. If it's an expansion for one of the existing Star Wars games that uses expansions like the last time (a new core set for X-Wing), I'll probably be happy. If it's some standalone game, I'll have two Christmas presents to hand out in a couple of months.

I'll be happy with any expansion except Armada since I don't play that one (yet). But I can give it away or resell it if it is Armada.

I think it is a Standalone game, and honestly that is what I'd prefer. It would be nice to have a SW game that does not need a million expansions that I just play with my girlfriend.

I expect a 4-player card game.

I want a Super Star Destroyer for Armada, and the ground game for X-Wing (with AT-ATs, AT-STs, and Speeders). Anything else is gravy.

Yes it is. Couldn't even do 30 card decks, FFG? WTF

Not a fan of Destiny so meh on this release, keeping fingers crossed that local stores do discounts on Xwing and Armada this Friday.

I honestly can't believe this is all it is.

I agree. I'm a little disappointed if this is all we get. I'm still hoping I wake up to some kind of article giving some more Legion details.

This ++++++++

I play Destiny, and even I was a little disappointed. Even more so when I would have to do the classic FFG "you'll need two of these" to get 2 copies of each card plus elites of the characters.

Huge resounding meh from me...can't say i'm surprised though.

Can we still wait for something legion article? Or is this all¿

I hope there's more. Otherwise that's a shame. While I'm sure some people love it, Destiny is one of the FFG games I've been least interested in.

All things considered, Force Friday isn't specifically aimed at us as gamers, but at mostly at kids, family, and hard-core collectors/fans. A two-player, easy to access game with preexisting support is an easy sell to people who've never heard of it before. New buyers can grab it, take it home, and start playing; or sit on it for a holiday gift. Legion was a long shot at best, probably isn't as marketable (especially considering it's not slated for another several months), and isn't directly tied to The Last Jedi. Because, let's face it, Force Friday is a manufactured holiday designed to sell toys, build hype, and make money.

I just wish they would have released a 1-4 player game instead, like some variant of the rumored card quest game.

I think a lot of people aren't interested. I was at Gencon when Lukas Litzinger, the Destiny designer, took the stage during the FFG In Flight Report. He stopped and did that thing where someone is waiting for applause. It didn't come. It was super obvious that the crowd didn't like Destiny nearly as much as he thought they would. One of the first things he demoed was an upcoming card (Ahsoka Tano) that allowed for even more action cheating, which is something a lot of people think is currently ruining the game. The crowd just felt deflated. I heard multiple people say "well, I'm out... it's going to get worse before it gets better".

Destiny will continue to sell, though. It's Star Wars, has dice and it appeals highly to the ultra-competitive crowd. Warmahordes players. Magic the Gathering players. It also appeals highly to casual players... until they go to an organized event and see how a competitive, combo oriented deck performs. Then they lament having spent so much money on cards and dice. There's a reason singles card pricing is plummeting right now. Casual players are selling out right now all over the place.

Card prices are dropping because they've finally released enough product that it's not being sold out within weeks of restock. No CCG, even then big 3 cash cows, maintains a situation where the contents of a sealed pack, on average, are worth more then the pack costs.

I wouldn't expect anything like this for quiet some time. Just look at the PR campaign for Runewars and that will probably be pretty close to what happens for Legion.

I don't like collectible format games so the announcement of SW Destiny was initially a non-event for me. Then I watched the "how to play" video from Team Covenant. It's a really cool game. I drove all over town today to snag my two copies of the new box. Lots of fun!

Destiny had a bumpy start because it was so popular. The first set sold through and wasn't available again for some months. As @ScottieATF explained, singles prices are dropping now because they had been so high as a result of temporary scarcity. People had been selling their stuff previously, out of frustration with the struggle to get product (and therefore opponents) - but others were quickly buying it up.

Can't speak to what happened at the 2017 In Flight since I wasn't there. I wouldn't be surprised if the attendees were not super enthusiastic. Most of the people there have not been qualified by years of FFG releases to get excited about collectible format games, given FFG has not published such a game in a long time.

Force Friday is definitely not aimed at gamers. The Destiny box was shelved at Target directly with the new SW toys rather than the separate sections for adult board games or CCGs/Dice Masters.
