Not to dispute the point overmuch, but the Star Wars RPG has numerous missing products if you follow the product numbers. Not saying it can't be Destiny, but missing product like that isn't unusual.

In X-Wing holes have always been filled in.

Yeah I know, it's pretty common for FFG to have missing skus that fill up later.

Difference here is that Destiny, from what Lucas said in an interview at the start of the year, has a more rigourous release schedule than the other products: 1 Base Set and 2 Expensions per year, with a new Starter Set every year. Awakening was the Base Set, with 2 Starter, then the 2 Extension are Spirit of Rebellion and Empire at War.

Plus, they totally said it is going to be a new product. It won't be destiny related.

That's not to say that they won't *announce* anything related to these games Friday, but the new $30 product is something completely new.

New product does not necessarily equal new product line. Could be a new product for an existing game line.

According to my FLGS, they could only order a small amount. I think they had an option of 3 or 6 products. Unless they mean 'shipping crate' when they say product, neither of those is enough to sell to the masses, so it's probably some kind of demo.

How big is your FLGS? They may have limited them based on the size of the store's typical orders. I can't imagine any kind of demo being $30.

Hard to say? It's about the same size as the others I've been to, which is small, I guess. But it's one of two in a large college town (and I think the other is more of a comic book store, but I haven't been there as it's on the other side of town). The owner mentioned that other shops got the same deal, so I kind of assumed the deal was universal.

Technically, you are correct. But, I don't think that was the intended meaning. Look at the context of the article:

Quote

With the impending release of Star Wars ™: The Last Jedi , Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce their participation in Force Friday II with a new Star Wars product!

Fantasy Flight Games has produced a large array of Star Wars ™ products, from the X-Wing ™ Miniatures Game to Star Wars ™: Destiny .

They say "new product" and then immediately describe x-wing and destiny as "products". I know we get into kind of a rule lawyer mindset with these games so we read everything really literally and we want expansions for our favorite games, so we are more likely to read it in that way, but I feel like they were being pretty clear.

Plus, every one of the fan bases for their SW games think it is an expansion for their game. If they were releasing something for one specific game, they would have worded it "Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce their participation in Force Friday II with a special suprise for X-Wing fans!" (or something like that) as to avoid the other game's fan-bases getting disappointed.

Plus, the Force Friday website says there is a new game coming:

It may be. I don't know anything about lgs ownership, but I imagine an average sized store will get smaller amounts, but the really big stores will have access to a lot more. And it is not out of the question for them to have a deal with Target like they did last year (though the article does imply it will only be at comic/game shops)

but, hey, it wouldn't be a real FFG game if there was not a product shortage at launch.

I thought the new product was just to support this AR treasure hunt thing Disney are doing. My hopes aren't all that high...the phrasing makes it sound that way. "This new product" implies it's connected. Hopefully I am mistaken!

"This year’s goal is to make Force Friday even bigger and better than ever with an unprecedented global augmented reality initiative: “Find the Force.” This Force Friday, fans are invited to aid the Resistance by taking part in an AR treasure hunt for data chips that hold information about key personnel. Fans can use the Star Wars app on their phones from September 1 st to 3 rd to unlock life-size AR characters developed by ILM.

Fans can share pictures and videos featuring the characters on social media for a chance to win a trip to the film premiere and product prize packages, including new Star Wars : The Last Jedi prizes.

Be sure to check out the Fantasy Flight Games website on September 1 st for more information on this new product!"

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Been rewatching The Office lately.

The wording in the article is kinda clunky, but the new product has nothing to do with the AR thing. The AR thing is something that Disney is doing with all the retailers (and presumably, they all have to mention it on their force Friday posts). It is pretty much a copy paste from the info about the AR game on the other retailers page's.

Their new product is something completely new. Presumably some stand alone game.

You know, it is interesting...if you notice, the article is split into 4 parts:

`1) FFG is proud to present we are releasing a new product to celebrate Force Friday!
2) Here is what FFG is and what kind of Star Wars things we have done in the past
3) Here is what Force Friday is
4) Check our website on Force Friday to find out more about this new product

Part 2 seems interesting for them to add. Presumably if you are reading this here, you know what FFG is already. I suppose they added it because the tease of a new product will mean it's will get some exposure from various other websites, and people who do not already know about FFG are likely to be reading it. (even more reason to believe that the new product is not an expansion for an existing game)

Hopefully you are right....the AR thing will be quite a boring surprise if it is that :P

I'm sure. Every company participating in Force Friday is doing the AR thing and I think in order to participate you have to have new Merchandise. Plus, we already pretty much know everything about the AR experience. Nothing about it would justify buying a $30 item.

As a FLGS operator I remember this conversation with my distributor. Each case will contain 6 of the $30 box, I was allowed to order 3 cases... it was expensive investment for something I have no idea what it could be, all they told me was that it was releasing on Force Friday and no one was allowed to know what it was. I PRAY it's destiny related. If it is, I just made some good money. Some of the other product lines will move but just slower but I'm confident I can move them. A new product line has the highest risk for me and their company, my guess would lead me to believe an extension to an existing product line or early release kits for Legion to build anticipation and then release these kits with the core game. From my perspective these make the most sense.

I have a hard time believing it's a new game simply because they asked owners to buy it blind. I think owners will be super pissed if they found out it was a new game with no promotion prior.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Besides, it would be poor marketing to release something new as blindly as this. Please, for the love of the money, be for destiny

You'd have to break open a copy just to demo it to get people to buy it. Holy crap that would be a **** show.

Nah. At $30 you're in impulse buy territory. The back of the box just has to look cool enough and you're set since its Star Wars. You're also assuming they won't send a demo copy with each order.

Yea, I'd have to agree. Does anybody really think it would be a struggle to move 18 units of a $30 Star Wars deck building game or WHQ type LCG. He!l even a Star Wars themed Catan you probably blow through 18 units right?

My FLGS would sell 18 units of an FFG Star Wars ANYTHING in pre-orders alone, so no I don't think it'd struggle to shift :D

Yeah. Star wars sells. Plus, Force Friday and the mysteriousness of the item are marketing enough.

I've already pre-ordered mine and I have no clue what it is.

It's a rock. Have fun with it.

Nope. They never said it was an app. It's a physical item that is already being shipped out. All we know for sure about it is that it will cost $30 MSRP.

They also said it was something new.

hum didn't read that. well then i will bet its something to do with the new film. probably a deck game

here is the article: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/8/25/find-the-force/

A deck game seems likely. The biggest rumor I've heard is that it is a Star Wars reskin a discontinued warhammer adventure card game. I've not played the original game, but I've only heard good things. I hope that is what it is.
