SWM28: Resurgent-class Battlecruiser (Finalizer title, General Hux commander)

I for one eagerly await the Resurgent Class.

But I'm a happy guy today with the announcement of the MC-75. Two joyous announcements a week apart is surely too much to expect right? If next week see the Resurgent, I will probably die from an overdose of happy.

Even him want it... SWM 20 SSD !!!

For Reb's, could be the Dauntless class, the Bulwark class or the Viscount class as the SWM 28 (to give them a little chance against that SSD) ;)

It would make sense for them to release two epic ships simultaneously so both sides would be balanced and could play epic scenarios.

I know balancing out the factions for fairness makes sense from a mechanical standpoint, but thematically the whole point of the Executor in the movies is that it's just impossibly, hilariously, stupidly larger than any ship could hope to be. The visual impact of the ISD was originally its sheer size anyway, when it zoomed overhead in the opening shot of Episode IV.

So I accept that FFG may decide that a Viscount or something is necessary for the Rebels to be able to have their own Epic ship. After all, WotC's starter pack for Starship Battles was Executor vs. Viscount.

However, I'd rather FFG give the Rebels something else. I've been pretty impressed with their creativity so far, and they used asymmetrical balance in Experimental Retrofit vs Fleet Command.

So, count me in for something besides a Huge Rebel ship. Planetary guns, Ewok gliders, Tibanna refinery station, Jedi praxeum ship, Ithorian herd ship, Gungan battle jalopy... Actually, a praxeum ship packaged with some expensive but powerful officers could actually be cool, and we could get Jedi Luke in there.

Though I'd obviously buy a Viscount, and it would all be worth it to get the Executor.

Yeah, but they seem to be making a big deal of FF2, and we have SWM:20 AND SWM:28 to be announced. . . perfect! The SSD and a Reb equivalent! Epic play symmetry is here! :D

That was my first thought as well.

Now, as to the identity of the first Rebel Epic scale ship, I have been thinking lately that a Rebel refit Lucrehulk would fit the bill nicely.

No, it will have no chance of going gun for gun with an SSD, but it could go Squadron for Squadron, or nearly so.

Rebels using reconditioned CIS ships is already Canon, so no issue there.

Not that I would be disappointed with a Viscount or Bulwark, I just find this a more thematic option for a Rebel group to be using.

Yeah, but isn't the Lucrehulk only about the size of an ISD? I though Anakin destroyed one over Ryloth by driving a Venator into it. If that's the case, it would be dwarfed by the SSD, no?

fingers crossed they do, I can't believe that Gauntlets wouldn't get put into a separate fighter pack along with some of the other missing x wing fighters at some point.

They've already indicated that the Gauntlets come with the ISD by including the squad cards in the list of stuff in that pack in the article.

Yeah I know, I said that earlier in reply to someone else. But I still can't believe we won't get a fighter pack that includes them at some point. If you look at the fighters from X wing we are missing, from strikers to punishers etc I'd bet they come in at some point if only to make it up to the pack of four. Only thing working against it for now, as of wave 12, we are up to 6 Imperial fighters (see point below about X wing) that aren't released as or don't have a box set available. I'd be surprised if those fighters weren't somewhere in the Armada dev queue. Same for the 7 Scum and 3 Rebel. (not counting TFA stuff) Some of those could be combined into a second rogues and villains set.

One other thing to note, Armada has normally got fighters from X wing, obviously because X wing has been out longer and the all the standard stuff was released. But what are the odds this means the Gauntlet is going to drop for X wing at some point.

SWM28 is a Star Wars lunch box, settle down kids.

Better have an old school glass thermos. Man, who doesn't want to eat glass with their lunch when it inevitably gets mishandled?

I'm not bitter...really...

This is the sign of a well designed game. I like seeing factions be balanced, distinct entities. If I can look at a design and it feels like an Imperial design rather than a Rebel one, they're doing it right.

SWM 20 is the front half of Executor, SWM 28 is the back half.

There's a non-zero part of me that thinks SWM20 being missing just happened from one of the designers forgetting the number and then FFG running with it and letting us speculate.

Probably sitting round the table at Christmas partying getting drunk and wondering how they could get they could wind every body up on the forums. Lets leave an empty SKU :-)

That or it's the trophy for winning Worlds. Want the missing SKU? Go win one, nerd! @JJs Juggernaut, please confirm. PS if you can't confirm, I'll "believe" you, comma, wink. I get what you mean, yes, it's "not" the missing SKU.

Or it's something they started working on before Corellian Conflict, but decided to abandon it in favour of that. Maybe a different style of campaign expansion, or a mini Core Set; something that was different but didn't work out/wasn't as good an idea.

SSD is coming!

It's like ''winter'' in Game Of Thrones, you know it will come and have to wait for it.

Some day, it will be there ;)

The Lucrehulk is 3170m long, 3009m wide, and 1028m high.

You first need to remember how Anakin destroyed the one over Ryloth. He flew a wounded Venator through the mandibles and into the core ship.

That is, he flew a ship the size of an MC80 Liberty through that gap in the doughnut, where the hangers are located.

It is more than twice the length of an ISD, and taller than a VSD is long.

Is it as big as a SSD? No. Not even close.

Is it big enough for an Epic scale squadron pusher for the Rebels? I think so.

Are there any other ffg games that have had missing sku's or is armada the only one?

There are others on and off. They are generally filled eventually, but I know LOTR LCG has some and last I checked Runewars did as well, but that may have changed after a bit.

Has ffg ever hinted as to why they skipped over some?

But... I don't want an SSD! It's going to be really expensive, and it's hard enough finding normal games of Armada where I am, never mind Epic ones. Give me Strike cruisers, LibertyLiberator-class carriers, Venators, CC-7700 frigates, even Carrack cruisers, rather than a great big, useless SSD...

I just want them all!!!

For me, my ideal situation for Armada is to have all the ship that where in Star Wars Rebellion (1998 PC game).

star-wars-rebellion-pc-00a.jpg

But they were all of them deceived.... for another wave was made.....

In the land of Roseville Minnesota, in the headquarters of FFG, the head of the Star Wars Armada forged in secret, an epic wave.

One wave to rule them all.......

Where is it cannon? Not questioning you just curious to know where they canonized that.

The most famous one is X-Wing with their #20 SKU, SWM-20

It was going to be a set of cardboard tiles in order to make up a space based map. However, after mockups (and perhaps even prototypes) were made, including an advertisement splash... The product was Cancelled without Fanfare, Notice or Release... it only took some digging before a subsequent confirmation came forth.

Ohey, I found its announcement pre-cancellation:

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2013/4/15/bolder-battlefields/

But because it was subject to cancellation, and it is not reflected at all on the X-Wing Product Page, its often glossed over as a "Missing" SKU by people who are unaware.

Product cancellations do happen in development, even when they're developed enough to get a unique SKU.
