Thrawn's Paint Job
That's an offer at collaboration, chief

Keep telling yourself that...

I'll rather buy a Resurgent from Mel when it's available!

FFG will certainly make a Resurgent. If you want a fancy command star destroyer, I really think there is no other option than this
I have to agree with that...
I was planning to keep one stock and one repainted... But lets just be honest, I'm sure I will at least "touch up the Chimera, and that will most likely snowball into a full repaint.

Lol, I knew what ship it was before I even clicked on it!
Funny thing is, when I get one I will most likely paint and stat it as a Gravity Well ship. That center sphere just screams gravity well projector to me.

What color is a gravity well projector in your mind's eye?
I always pictured a blue/green glow, but the Rebels red is growing on me.

not sure at all, they may have a printer issue in doing anything bigger than ISD (same as Mel with Resurgent). I personally dislike the Lucrehulk destroyer design. It's shouting for FUD, and I'm not rich enough to get one.
Resurgent in WSF will certainly go under the 200€ bar (I hope)

FFG ships are extruded plastic, not 3D printed.
But yeah, the LSD deserves FUD.

Full repaint would destroy the factory Chimera paint job, no?

Not if I do it in stages.
Repaint all but the Chimaera silhouette, probably to light grey.
Then repaint the Chimaera silhouette, probably a powder blue or blue grey, but I haven't ruled out a metallic silver.... This is how it will snowball.
It's an expensive risk.

No, I will have 2, and one of those was destined for a full repaint regardless.

Good thing the graphic looks A silly and B isn't a chimaera. Painting over it will only serve to improve the model.

As Dras pointed out, it's probably the Star Wars equivalent of the Chimera.

Bad excuses for people's mistakes are bad. When you choose to name something after a well known mythical creature, you should probably ensure it matches that creature, or think of a better name.

Its Star Wars. If it looked like a Greek style Chimaera it'd be beyond ridiculous.
I mean for one its a weird gripe to have since they're mythological and therefore up to artistic depiction. For another this isnt by far the first time Star Wars has used real mythology to name things in universe that are wildly different to their namesakes. Mandolorian Basilisks don't look anything like typical depictions of the mythological creature. Krayt Dragons have eight legs or so. Its simply a stylized multi headed alien creature they chose to use for Thrawn's flagship. If they used a lion, dragon, and ram, we'd all be left wondering why there are lions and rams in SW.
(Sorry for the paragraph, the length makes this seem far more serious then it actually is
)
As for the graphic looking silly, I can't rebut that cause its your opinion
but personally I like it a ton.

Then get a new name. Pretty simple, as far as the other gobbledegook no clue, don't star wars, never ran into any of it.

Because, y'know,
even the standard 'mythological creature' gets it wrong:
The Chimera ( / k ɪ ˈ m ɪər ə / or / k aɪ ˈ m ɪər ə / , also Chimaera ( Chimæra ); Greek : Χίμαιρα , Chímaira "she-goat") was, according to Greek mythology , a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor , composed of the parts of more than one animal. It is usually depicted as a lion , with the head of a goat arising from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake 's head, [1] and was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra .
The term chimera has come to describe any mythical or fictional animal with parts taken from various animals, or to describe anything composed of very disparate parts, or perceived as wildly imaginative, implausible, or dazzling.
I mean, we have Chimera cats, for one.
That's what i was thinking, that chimeras were any kind of mixed animal creature. In this case spider-snake.
These are fair points, but still suffer a bit from 'translation', so to speak.
Should have went with Fenrir, made it a lion, and given us a decent graphic.
Thrawn's emblem a lion? In Star Wars?!? What is he a Lannister? Thrawn Lionheart?
You're telling me you would rather see the most overused animal in heraldry that doesn't even work at any level in the SW universe and slap it on the belly of a Star Destroyer?
Ducks and swans and Iguanas only work in SW because they're visually a good ammalgamation of their type of animal and somewhat indistinctive enough they can barely pass for maybe quite possibly evolving elsewhere. It's still really silly still and a massive stretch but they could be given a pass. Lions are about as visually striking and unique as they come.
Why not slap an elephant on their for good measure as well.
