Thrawn's Paint Job

Thrawn's emblem a lion? In Star Wars?!? What is he a Lannister? Thrawn Lionheart?

You're telling me you would rather see the most overused animal in heraldry that doesn't even work at any level in the SW universe and slap it on the belly of a Star Destroyer?

Ducks and swans and Iguanas only work in SW because they're visually a good ammalgamation of their type of animal and somewhat indistinctive enough they can barely pass for maybe quite possibly evolving elsewhere. It's still really silly still and a massive stretch but they could be given a pass. Lions are about as visually striking and unique as they come.

Why not slap an elephant on their for good measure as well.

Elephant sounds awesome, let's do it. Full on war elephant.

Asian or African?

I have an airbrush decal with 90% of the detail of the Chimera alreayd.

But I'll be leaving at is, as further emphasis, even though the rest of my Imperial ships are white.

where did you get the decal if i may ask?

I was debating paint stackingly masking it off or paying a commission painter to do it for me. or trying to blend the normal grey to cover the mismatched panels.

African. Because size matters.

I made it. I also went into details to how I made the mask

fair. I must have missed it.

I'm also intensely personally pissed off with it, too...

It was a lot of surgically specific work in cutting it out... And I almost got it finished... But I'm really hesitant on it now. I don;t know if I want to finish it.

It will be especially completely heartbreaking if, when I get an Chimaera, I find out that my template is too large or two small... Personally, I won't care, but it'll remove all of those absolutely 100% OC Clients I have from wanting me to use it.

Speaking of this, why does the Chimaera look like the Hydra on the ISD? The Chimaera was that Lion/Goat/Snake creature, so why the weird squiggly heads?

Yeah, this is what I started wondering too once I had a closer look... Puts a slight crimp in the plan for sure.

Because a Chimera is several animals that have been magically or divinely combined, squished together if you will, to form a monstrous new creature. The lion/goat/dragon is just one iconic version used alot in pop culture, its not the only option. As such, using a different (star wars) mythos structure they may have combined different creatures than the greeks did- other cultures here on earth certainly have done so.

Its also a scientific term for a creature that is living, but made of multiple, genetically distinct organisms. There are a number of human Chimera living amongst us, having only partially absorbed a twin in the womb. Their appearance can be indistinguishable from other people, or startlingly different.

Manbearpig is a Chimera.

Should have went with Fenrir, made it a lion, and given us a decent graphic.

Fenrir is a mythological wolf.

Would be dumb to put a lion on a ship named after a wolf.

That was kind of the joke.

On the other hand, given Filoni's known love of wolves, I would not be surprised to see an ISD appear named Fenrir with a wolf's head graphic. For extra fun, Commander Wolffe then steals it, gathers the Wolfpack (Sinker, Boost & Comet), and begins a career as a very successful pirate, appearing as a wolf in sheep's clothing at Imperial worlds to rob them, preying on the weak, and generally hounding the spaceways.

Given the snake-like appearance of the Chimera's "Tattoo", is anyone else intrigued what a Hydra might look like in Star Wars art form?

Well, if the Chimera in our world is Lion+Snake+Goat, and in Star Wars is Snake+Spider+Eye-Stalks, we can see that the Snake element remains unchanged. A Hydra in our world is a serpentine creature. We can therefore surmise that Snakes in our world are the same as Snakes in Star Wars, and thus the Hydra will remain unchanged.

Which, at least in my mind, would make for one badass companion art on a second ISD. Anyone up for a paintjob depicting the Death's Head or Judicator this way? :D

Death's Head seems to be a more apt name for a ship depicting a Hydra, I think.

So, one ISD with cloaked Asteroids as ordnance. With a giant snake at the bottom. ****. Yeah.

@Drasnighta Do you have any pictures of your Chimaera currently? I'm sure its not up to your standard but i'm certain its better the anything most of us could do.
