To those guys who have custom painted their larger imperial ships, how do you feel about the new Thrawn paint scheme? Will you paint over it to match your current paint jobs or leave it as is?
Thrawn's Paint Job

I have an airbrush decal with 90% of the detail of the Chimera alreayd.
But I'll be leaving at is, as further emphasis, even though the rest of my Imperial ships are white.

I know you've posted your ships here before but I don't remember seeing white capital ships. Can you direct me to them? I'd like to see how they'd fit with the new Thrawn release.
I'm repainting it red to match Blood Squadron.

They're being redone again. I had them on 'bucket, but they ended up a little too grey, and not quite flat enough...
There will be pics when I get further along
You know, I may have missed your point about the decal. Are you going to repaint Thrawn's ship the same color as your current fleet and then relay the decal over top of it, to still give its distinguished markings?
Im just a little irritated that I had my ships custom painted and then they release a ship we already have but with a custom graphic on it. Had I known they were going to do that, I would have left all my imperial ships their original color so that Thrawn's truly fit in and stood out at the same time. Am I making sense in my righteous indignation or is this something everyone else thinks is insignificant?
Im a completionist and I like everything to look uniform and now that most certainly won't be the case once I buy Thrawn's ship.
That's the reason I've never painted my Imperial ships. I like them uniformed! ?
I'll be doing a full repaint, that decal looks boring/lame anyway.
I'll keep the Chimaera paint job stock. That works just fine for my fleet since they don't all match each other anyway.
won't buy, unless it's either:
-dirt-cheap
-more than an ISD skin )

You've not read the article then, I take it.
I've been struggling to decide how to paint my imperials – I have ideas about colours, but not patterns.
With this, I had a crazy thought: I could try to paint over the Chimaera with a new colour scheme but keep the design, and then try to come up with similar ones for my other ships, a new creature from Greek mythology for each one. Minotaur, Hydra, Gryphon...
It might be WAY too difficult for me to do, so we'll see, but it'd sure look pretty cool.
Or I might just paint over it.

Speaking of this, why does the Chimaera look like the Hydra on the ISD? The Chimaera was that Lion/Goat/Snake creature, so why the weird squiggly heads?

Yeah, this is what I started wondering too once I had a closer look... Puts a slight crimp in the plan for sure.
I'm going to seal mine and give it a nice pin wash.

Same price as standard ISD, with two Mandalorian squadrons and three copies of two new ship profiles that can be used by the standard ISD model. Definitely more than a re-skin (and a nice one at that).

Yea, sorta goes to my overall point. FFG has to know that people custom paint their ships, I mean they have a whole sub forum on their web page dedicated to the hobbyists. So I can't believe they won't have some type of work around in place, like possibly selling the Chimera's decal for people who want to match their new Thrawn ISD with their current Fleet color scheme but if they don't...
ATTN FFG: Please include or sell separately Thrawn's Chimera decal/graphic so that us who want to keep our customized fleets consistent can use the decal as an overlay on our custom colors. PLEASE. While I'd prefer you include it right in the box, I wouldn't be adverse to buying it separately as well for a reasonable price.

yes but I don't need another ISD model... It will be cheaper to get the cards 2nd hand, with or without squadrons...
Gonna remove the bridge, use Mel's ISD-1 conversion kit, sand down the superstructure and then build up a massive Iron Warrors style skull into the superstructure, then paint it normally. Kinda like this:
but on an ISD. That would mark it out as the command ship and different to the other 2 ISDs I have.

Please post pics when you complete that. Would love to see it.

Where did you get your hands on that template?!

I made it myself, of course.

I'd love to learn your technique for doing such a template, then.
Nothing special.
I took the image from Rebels, specifically, the black negative of the image that they provided. Scaled it ot hte appropriate size. Printed it on, in this case, very thin plasticard.
Then spent 9 weeks painstakingly cutting it out with a scalpel in my off times.
Then, of course, just when you get it ready, read the announcement that they're providing a Chimera in the new wave.
Sooooo... I've got this Cameo Sillhouette that I've been meaning to play around with...
