To be really pedantic, the article says the expansion pack provides 2 new commanders; it doesn't say only 2. And the article does say there will be 18 upgrade cards in total; Thrawn + the other 17.

This is exactly why I think the other commander could be Vader. I know the original ISD still has a few relevant cards, mostly titles, Needa, and Ruthless Strategists. Most of the rest you can get elsewhere. Including Vader in this expansion makes sense to me.

Both the Original ISD and Chimaera have an MSRP of $50 and the Chimaera has way more content including 2 squadrons. Are new folks new to the game going to spend $50 regularly on the original ISD for Vader, Avenger, Needa, and Ruthless Strategist? Probably a few but probably not enough to warrant keeping an SKU active. New folks should and will go for the Chimaera first, by including Vader they can drop the old SKU and include those other upgrades in future expansions.

As an aside I think we all made out great with FFG repurposing the mold. It greatly reduced their development costs which in turn allowed them to give us significantly more in this expansion at the same price. This will be my second ISD, I'll be glad to have 2 that look different but I can't see getting a third unless the point limit for games is raised.

Other than those cards, 2 reasons to get the original are for running an ISD I or II.

I'm not sure if this is particularly likely to happen, but it'd suit my personal needs perfectly. As far as upgrades go, the only ones I really care about in the ISD pack are Vader and Boosted Comms.

If Vader came in the Chimaera expansion, I could just buy that one with all the other good stuff and push the original ISD way down the line as I'm on a pretty limited budget. I'd probably still get one eventually for the other ship cards and titles and the possibility of running a task force of two of them, but in the short term this'd be perfect.

To be honest, I'll probably still do that and just proxy Vader for the time being.

Without having played the new ships they both look like they outclass the original ISD I and II to me. For squadrons maybe but we have a carrier now, although with Thrawn you could pull a Squadron Command whenever you want so that might be useful. Overall though I think the new ship cards are much more efficient.

They have never replicated unique cards, I think.

Chimaera will be my fourth ISD, and I'm seriously considering buying another regular one. That'd let me field five, which is close to Thrawns original squadron (I'd just say Judicator is off somewhere).

I don't see these variants superseding the I and II, but adding to it.

They have their pros and cons. Regarding ISD-I vs ISD-K and ISD-II vs ISD-C:

ISD I:

Pros: Turbolaser slot; for X17, XX-9, H9 and HTT which all help in a high damage, low accuracy output ship. 4 squadron with 2 offensive retro and weapons slot make it a great carrier.

Cons: No ordnance for close range specialisation. No standard defensive retro. Blue dice for leading shots in all hull zones.

ISD-II:

Pros: Native defensive retro, greater close and medium range front arc. Greater side arc long range. Ion cannon slot. Better carrier. Medium range anti-squadron

Cons: +8 pts, worse front long range, no fleet command, no double turbolaser slots

Without having played the new ships, they all look viable to me.

Heck, putting Relentless or Avenger or even Devestator on one of these new variants seems fun and exciting.

Here's a crazy thought. Maybe the article is exactly right. 2 new commanders this wave (Thrawn, Raddus). Then the photo and text are consistent with themselves for 18 upgrades this wave:

Your logic about chimaera being the missing title is sound, but i wonder if there will also be a third copy of the 7th fleet title which would align with their 3 ship cards?

Unless (and this would be cool) the chimaea title also counts as 7th fleet even though it has its own ability.

I was also thinking on how there are only 2 of the 7th fleet, sounds plausible they would be complements to the Chimaera title and work togheter, this would imply a flagship only restriction on the Chimaera, which would make sense to hide, as I believe no titles up to date have restrictions right? I can't wait for more info on the Chimaera article when it comes out!!

Just thinking how this expansion "fits" into the current game.

- A really high proportion of the cards seem to be unique and faction specific (officers and titles). I was thinking this wave was going to be a big boon for large ship rebels as well, now not so sure. There may only be the def retros and the fleet commands that the rebels can use.

- It will be interesting whether the face down fleet command and face down defensive are new cards or reprints. I don't think Imps have a great use for All Fighters Follow Me, but the Shields! one is a strong possibility. For defensive - everyone already has ECM. Cluster bombs and Redudant Shields are badly thought of (and there were heaps in wave 2), and blast doors are already available in the Arquittens pack (also Imperial). So my guess is advanced projects (goes well on a 2 redirect ship) unless its a completely new card.

- I wonder if this will translate to the MC75 as well - we know it will have jyn, raddus and profanity, and no doubt a spread of other unique rogue one cards. If one of the MC75 variants can take fleet command there may be some cross over I guess. Assumming no more MC75 titles, of 14 upgrade cards, that's probably 6 or 7 uniques, so maybe the MC75 box will have 6 or 7 new "generic" upgrades (turbos, ions etc....)

Brunson could be spend one of your tokens to spend a token on the ship you are attacking. Can you say spend your contain to spend their brace. Avenger fun

The goran keyword is probably rouge because those all affect decimators and this could be to help them
