Idea about too many cards creep in FFG games

By cogollo, in Star Wars: Legion

I like the use of cards in FFG minis games, but find that after several expansions it becomes cumbersome to store, organize, etc.

One way to solve this would befor FFG to offer an app where you could have stored all the cards that you have already bought (some sort of optical or QR code inside the expansion blisters) to keep track of all the cards you own.

What do you think? Would it add value to their mini games or just more cost and overhead?

Personally when I'm storing that many figures the extra couple of folders is nothing.

My biggest concern is table space, I only have a 5x3 table. (this being the first miniatures war game I'll have owned I've not needed bigger). and it fits so nicely in the space I have. Table toppers away!

Actually no my biggest concern is hoping that it's popular enough at my FLGS so they want to support the game and don't mind storing some scenery.

There are 3rd party list builders that generally fill this need. Get a binder for card storage.

I keep all my Armada cards in a binder in sleeves. I find it convenient to organize my cards like that. Just separate everything by upgrade type and finding what I need is easy. I'd hate to have an app to play the game.

Keeping track of a lot of cards requires a bit of overhead (either "throw 'em all in a drawer and spend five minutes digging out what I want", or "investing in a binder and organizing them all once"), but the flipside is that almost all your rules are there at the table while you're playing.

Not having to interrupt play to check a model's stats or gun or special abilities is a huge upside to FFG's upgrade card system.

Likely this would be against the license agreement. It's so old that too much digital support and it crosses the line into the "electronic game" license territory.

That's why there's no PDFs of the RPG books, only extensional "promotional materials" likewise why you can the core rules for x-wing or Armada, but not a digital card manager.

I would consider the "cards text" core rules. I don't know if license allows it but it will definitely help a bit of digitalisation. FAQing will be more simple as the change could be made visible in the "digital card".

Likely won't help.

See the skirt is they arent digitally releasing enough to play the game. So they can make it a free "promotional item." When you start including the unit rules like the cards contain then you start getting enough to play the game, and then it becomes an "electronic game" and falls under the license held by EA.

I dont mind storing all the cards and what not.

I just dont want to have 10-20 extra cards on the table to keep track of upgrades and abilities, cluttering the table and bloating the gameplay. I really hope they keep upgrades (ingame) to a minimum. I like the idea that some simply add another miniature to a unit, perfect use of upgrades!.

Most army builders would have the cards and stuff in one place.

For friendly games at home no cards required.

You should see the bloat of some of the wargames that don't clutter the table with upgrades...

Faster to look abilities up from the table in front of you than flipping through one or multiple rule/army books.

Yeah 40k is better now with the new layout. But you still have situations where you may have to look up something in the core rules book, or the codex or the Index, since some units in the Index aren't in the codex...

The biggest Epic X-Wing game I've played have not had so many upgrades and other cards that it was an actual burden or got in the way.
