Tie Defenders and interceptors

By chr335, in Star Wars: Armada

Okay thinking about a new imperial fighter wing of 6 interceptors and 4 defenders. Fast enough to scythe though swarms (ties and z95s) but enough hill to hold off beefier fighters. Thoughs?

It's a great air superiority mix, especially with some Flight Coordinators, however lacks severely in anti-ship capability unless you run Sloan, and even then Interceptors omniloathe flak. I'd have to really run it a couple times, maybe with double VSDs?

In like what a sloane fleet? I mean you have a devestating alpha. So long as you can activate all those fighters you should be fine. I think it could work, but in general if you are spending 130 points on imperial squadrons and not bringing any aces theres a degree of "but why tho?" I start asking myself.

Shara is going to be somewhat obnoxious for you to deal with, with the right placement she could take upwards of three interceptors alone.

It would have to be a Slone fleet for this wing. Any other commander would switch the interceptors around to advances and bombers

No relay means you need to keep them close(er) to your ships. This is (imo) a problem with the speed you have with them.

And 10 squadrons need to be activated. As someone who is always playing with 10+ squadrons i can tell you that this is the hardest part. So you need eigher two carriers (ISD, Quasar) or a lot of Gozanti. These ships (no matter if carrier or Gozanti) will need Boosted Comms, to stay in range to activate the squadrons.

If you take out one Defender and add Jendon instead, you are gaining relay 2 and do not lose any damage. In the end you even gain a few hull, because of the double brace on Jendon. But you become way more flexible in what you do. And if you want to top it, you can even exchange another defender with a shuttle. This way you have relay 4 and even strategic. But you will lose damage in this way.

Downgrading 2 Tie Interceptors to TIE Fighter (or one TIE Fighter and Black Squadron) would even allow you to replace one TIE Defender with Stele. It does not give you more damage against squadrons, but more against ships. It would even give you more possibilities and more hull.

Stele offers a slight boost vs squads, in that you can flip a blank black to a HIT/CRIT. With Jendon he is oc even more awesome :D

Yes, stele give the boost. But the downgrade from the two TIE Interceptor to TIE Fighter remove a bit of the damage vs. squadrons.

Two Expanded Hangar boosted comms Quasars actually can take over the full squad activations! after that you get some ships and SHAZAM! you have a list

As i said. You need eighter two carriers... (in this case the two Quasar).

But your variant cost already 280 points (63 for each Quasar, 130 for the squadrons, 24 for Sloane). And you have no combat ship in it. And these 10 squadrons are not going to kill any ships (in this case 6 Interceptors and 4 Defender).
Sure, you can add a demo and one Gozanti. But this is not really strong. Or maybe one nacked ISD. But in all ways, this one has a really low number of activations.

This is why i dislike the Quasar a little bit. It is a bit expensive.
I find one Quasar and one ISD way better. IF you want two carriers.
