The Rogue Shadow

By MarekMandalore, in X-Wing

Like the Gunboat and Skipray Blastboat threads, I thought this could be a nice additional ship to propose as one to gain a cult following on these forums so that maybe, by Wave 23, we might see the wonderous Rogue Shadow grace our game...

Of course, at an official length of 65 meters, either they'd have to retcon the size or it would be an Epic scale ship with a cloaking device (interesting possibility).

For pilots (assuming standard, not Epic), I'd think at least five options: a generic Imperial (representing the several who died on missions before the Force Unleashed begins), Juno Eclipse (Imperial), the Apprentice (Imperial version of Starkiller), Juno Eclipse (Rebel), and Galen Marek (Rebel Starkiller).

Crew could include General Kota, PROXY, crew versions of Starkiller and Juno, and (just for fun) a crew version of an Inquisitor.

It could add interesting new mechanics in the form of cloaking for either large or huge ships.

I wonder how many others might be interested in seeing this awesome, dual faction beast unleashed on our game?

Would be a nice counterpart to the Kom'rk, since they would both need to be at epic scale while still being a non-huge ship.

A new size category? That could be interesting.

Another new size is the standard sized epic ship - having all the functions of an epic but at the size and scale of a standard (using standard templates, single base, maybe even multiple pilots). An example of this would be the corellian engineering UB-820 heavy tanker (I think that's its name) which appears in the ending scene of ESB.

On topic again, I really like the rogue shadow, and would love to see it in this game.

Personally, I think that giving it pilot cards is kind of essential to a faithful portrayal of the ship; especially Juno did a lot with the ship, including sneaking Starkiller into the Death Star for his drop off. (I don't think that using her TIE/x1 ability would fit; probably something that plays a little more to the stealth capabilities of the ship...)

I would love to see this ship! Honestly, I never played Unleashed, but have fallen in love with this beautiful monster of a ship!

She was the reward ship for the player in my hotac campaign at the end of season 1 with the most total kills and cost 100 points of xp to acquire. It's an absolutely essential part of our squad composition and functions as an outrageously effective elite killer, since it can hack enemy elites and either turn their attacks against other enemy ships or simply fly them off the board if they're too close to an edge. FFG probably wouldn't make something this monstrous if and when they do, but I just love the overall design of the ship and have so much fun seeing it tables every week wrecking face :)

Beautiful paint!!

But seriuosly, I can't decide if that thing remains me more of a bug or a pair of handle-less tin snips. And what ship-design doofus buries the cockpit so far into the mandibles you can't even see out past your own fenders??

Then people say Prequel ships don't look "Star Warsy" enough.

Couldn't resist writing death in aurebesh on it :P I like to think that the thing is so decked out with sensors everywhere that it likely doesn't need to visually acquire anything at all, but the design definitely isnt for everyone. I wish there were a decent model of the one from the second game tbh

I'd love to have the Rogue Shadow. I was looking at that 3D printed one but I always buy FUD (except for my Coralskippers because I wanted them to look like coral) and the Rogue Shadow model is prohibitively expensive for what you get.

For X-wing, I can't say I'm a fan of the 3D printed material; I've used a lot of it for other games, but X-wing the model only gets you halfway; then there's all the cards and cardboard that I want to have match with the rest of my materials.

So, not only is a 3D printed Rogue Shadow a bit on the costly side, but for me, that makes it costly and incomplete. I'm hoping I can wait out FFG and they'll eventually make one for me.

That's what Strange Eons and a healthy imagination is for.

True, but my home printed cards just haven't looked as good, and I haven't got a clue how to make a good maneuver dial...

For dials, I use cheap 3D printed dial upgrades from Etsy and glue the Strange Eons dial printout to a piece of chipboard. Then, I print out a white ship outline, that I dig up from somewhere online, and pop that in to easily identify the dial. Pop the dial in over that and click the holder in place and voila.

Nice option; the closest I came to success was putting together an Ebon Hawk expansion for my brother; I glued the Strange Aeons printout to a discarded dial from Attack Wing (same place I stole a cardboard base insert and the whole base from), but the results weren't as nice to look at as I'd hoped. Functional, granted. But, especially the base plate had issues sitting right. I tried a spray adhesive that didn't pan out as well as it had for the counters I printed around the same time for Babylon 5 Wars...

On the other hand, he does have a playable Ebon Hawk with Revan and Meetra Surik (the Jedi Exile) as pilot options...

The Rogue Shadow would make an excellent addition to the game. Its unique design would make it stand out from the other Imperial ships on the field and it would be a great opportunity to have Galen Marek aka Starkiller, Juno Eclipse and PROXY to return for another appearance in Star Wars media.

So, Starkiller's ability? Some sort of crew based tractor array?

He would obviously need to be toned down or he'd be pulling CR-90s into GR-75s and crazy stuff like that. He almost made it into Rebels but was deemed too powerful. I would welcome him to the game, though, along with his sweet ship. It somehow fits the Imperial aesthetic without looking banal. To me, Starkiller is one of the more interesting EU characters. It was fun throwing the Force around with wreckless abandon.

Something stronk. But I'd like if he used stress as a resource. Maybe: When attacking, if you are stressed, remove 1 stress token to roll 1 additional attack dice or sth like that.

I would love to see this ship in the game. It is super cool and could introduce brand new mechanics in large ship Cloaking. I think it should be a large ship as well, not huge, for two reasons. 1) Huge ships move ponderously and that is not shown in the FU game, and 2) I've always thought the official size of 65 meters is way to big anyway. If you look at the ship, in game, it appears much smaller. In one of the missions to Racist Prime, you exit down the front ramp and can run all around the ship. It isn't that big.

He would definitely have to be toned down considering what he does to TIE fighters in the second one.

I do love me some abilities that turn stress into an advantage.

Would he be Imperial or Rebel? I always played him as evil but he sacrificed himself for the Rebellion in the Legends canon ending. Perhaps, dual-faction?

Duel faction makes sense. Maaaaaaybe two separate crew cards for Imps and Rebels, but that's a bit extravagant.

scale is a reason half of us buy the game. their scale model collectables as well as a miniatures game. if 1/390 scale is used for non epic ships, a lot of us will find another game, myself included.

No offense but I seriously doubt scale junkies are 50% of XWM's market share.
