Trying to prep a deck for this years Gen Con.

By MJWaters84, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

So, I am actively buying up at least one copy of every Asylum Pack there is. Frankly, I am dissapointed at the range of cards compared to the CCG... but whatever. Times change.

One of the Asylum Packs that I bought with the core game included a card called Across Dimensions. This card is like a mini-bomb, yeah?

I mean, if you are running the entire deck in-faction, then you will have a significant boost when it comes time to do battle. I dont think the card itself is at all that good to base a deck around it, but maybe that card can be abused?

The second idea was to build one amazing Miskatonic Deck. Maybe team it up with the boys in blue for a hybrid. Miskatonic are pretty well rounded as far as icons, but they need some help with killing things.

ANy thoughts?

miskatonic is pretty weak, usually when i team they up with another faction i do it with a monster faction. that way i have some investigation. even so ive found it hard to use miskatonic. usually you can find investigation but with stronger characters elsewhere. seems the only thing they have is draw, and restoring insane characters, neither which will in the game. all the bashing aside id like to find a way to build a solid deck around pagan hall. mad genius would probably play a role in that i dont know.

Hope to go to Gencon this year, so I won't be a good helper, sorry.

Concern miska, use it as a sidekick right now ... this faction isn't strong enough to build a deck by itself. Concerning pagan hall, you can have a nice deck build around mad genius, Erin Morai (futur card), Dr Carson ... and investigations...

Look at Close for Inspection and binding + consider the parallel Universe, this is a nice card !!

I ran MIskatonic at GenCon last year and enjoyed it tremendously. I work at a University, so I was naturally drawn to the theme.

Except for one bone-headed play, I would have made top 4 with the deck. But I didn't... Maybe Miskatonic isn't that great, but it has cool (fun) characters like Hapless Graduate Student and Coach Grabowski.

I've been quite successful recently combining Miskatonic characters with Cthulhu support cards. But they work well with support from every factions.

What I really like about Miskatonic is how fast you can churn out an army of investigators and the many sneaky ways to get extra successes at stories.

Give them a single turn without adequate opposition and the game's as good as lost for their opponent. I've had several games that were won in round two or three with them, especially against factions (or rather decks) that concentrate on expensive characters.

I do agree with you, if the faction don't encounter another one that's start fast too. Actually, Shubb, Agency and Hastur have enough 1 & 2 cost characters that may blast a miska rush. The problem being Miska needs desperatly characters to earn enough tokens to be a real threat.

And, right now, the main problem is to face stable decks (with the red tide, agency wound, Hastur denial and Cthulhu's destroy stuffs) and be able to earn points in defense and offense. That's actually the main problem the faction encounter. Hastur and Syndic had less characters in the pool right now, but if you do figure out the effects, the card pool has more synergie : Most of the characters costs 3 or more and refers to

The Julia brown cycle bringed 3 cool characters (prodigy, carson, the Hapless student) the others guys were middleclass heroes ... Which wasn't the case for the main factions.

The dreamland cycle do proposed a change with the dreamers, and the ability to use the Arcane. Once this set will be finished, I can smell some huge changes for thsi faction.
