First trays of Elves painted

First 2 trays of elves completed

Normally I have a long rant about painting...not as much this time, I expect.

The elves are at the bottom of this link: https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/D4Msl6mjXP1oLcy1U152Qha7G1yH6DgDLmTo6r2bBkJ

The first couple were my color test - the based ones I'll be fielding.

Here's the thing that I learned:

I went to an art store and bought 2 .000 brushes, about $5/ea. and that is a game changer.

The 2 sets were: the first set had silver bows, the second have white bows, the 2nd set I had the .000 brushes. For me that was a big difference, I can get fairly straight lines!

I was fixing things on 2nd set that would have been called fixed on the first.

I was going to do more autumn basing - but started to look a little christmas-y.. not what I was after, so tried for "earthy" with overgrowth.

Can't seem to get the spirit of a magic "glow" out of the bows, but I'm starting to ask a lot.

Still Lots of errors - but getting better and starting build confidence and having more fun at it.

Ok,ask me again after the leonx...

Looking good!

Nicely done, but IMO they're begging for some quickshade.

That's another difference - I wish I could remember who said "if you want the cape white, Don't shade it.."

but the other areas do have quickshade, the "soft" tone, and I admit, very lightly. I wanted them to be bright and you are very correct, I wish I could get that mix right.

You can still shade the white, just be careful and don't dip the whole cape.

better off pin washes the recesses, not dipping at all if you want to A preserve white and B do clear work.

You have been quite prolific, keep at it. The only way to progress is doing a crap tonne of painting. Dig the armoured elves.

Love the Elves! Plus the Lions on your shields and standards are awesome. Are they transfers??

yes, the are transfers from http://www.ginfritter.com

Quite worried about the Elven command unit with the standard. having a hard time finding a transfer that I like.

I'll post pictures in a couple of days, but I ended out shading the elves with the soft shade.

I tried it and found I liked it better too - A little less cartoon look, a little more gritty.

Thank you for the suggestion!
