Army Expansions: Standalone or Supplemental?

I guess I'm not understanding the complaint.

It's not enough that the rules are freely available, or that you're given a cheap, easy way to acquire necessary game components (thus circumventing the usual FFG core box issue), the fact that you're expected to print them out is somehow an issue?

I guess people will complain no matter what you do.

How is this different than buying a board game but the rules aren't in the box? What if someone's first purchase is the essentials and the elf army, because they don't want Daqan or Waiqar? I thought the essentials box was meant to be an alternative to the core? They're treating it more like an expansion.

The rules are free. Everyone has open and equal access to the latest version of the rules in their entirety.

As I've already noted, the hard copies we do have are already outdated as of the recent FAQ/errata, so even core set owners are printing these off.

Sure no rules is a bit odd. But that's FFG. Anyone who buys an essential and an army pack though isn't playing just that on their kitchen table alone. They will be meeting up with someone who has the game.

once that person knows the latest rule version is online they'll go get it.

it really is not a big deal.

a big deal is what is Groot really saying when he says I am Groot. That is a bigger issue

I'll personally mail a copy of all three booklets to the first two people that show proof of purchase of the essentials pack and honestly complain about not getting the rules included.

Apparently FFG updated the rrg digital based in the FAQ, to my knowledge they've not done that before. The core rrg is now out of date anyway.

Ok, I concede my argument on the basis that a core set is meant to be playable out of the box, while the expansion + essentials is not.

They have done this in other games before. Destiny actually doesn't even have a printed Rules Reference available from the company.

I just watched an unboxing of the Essentials Pack. Rules books and Lore Guide are included.

EDIT: My mistake , he shows the books but he says they are not included in the pack. Still interesting if you want to see how the elves minis assemble.

Those don't look like the full rules, just a guide to what's in the Essentials Kit that you just purchased. He says, "This isn't gonna come with the Quick Start Guide, Lore Guide, or Rules Reference, but they are available online."

QFT, no books on Essential Pack. But I don't care about it.

Neither AoS or WH40k have the codex included in the starter boxes of each army, and of course is not free to download.

Ah man, sorry guys. I was watching it while listening to music.

Guys do you think, they will release another "starter" core set with Uthuk and Elves? Two of my friends already have like 4 starters of Undead vs Daqan, I would like to start playing with them too, but I thought third guy with the same armies would be too booring after while. We are small group of players (like 4-6 in future) who will play this game, with very little chance of getting new people.

I will play Uthuks, even if I like undead in any game (even here) much more, but I thought about having more variability, so I decided to give up on them in our group. The thing is, If I would only play one army with my RWM friends, its all ok, I could go with just Uthuks set and expansions, but I would like to have option to introduce new players to the game too, not from my gaming group, but from my friends in general when they come to visit me.. So If I had core with My Uthuks and Elves for that, this would be much better for me, I feel little bad about having to pay more if I buy Uthuks, then the essentials set and another expansions with elves, just to be able to "demo" the game once in two months and I would have to pay like 1,5x more money than the Daqan/Undead Core set.. ( prices in our shops = 122 USD for Core with undead/human vs 2 x 72 USD Army expansion + 31 USD for esentials = 122 vs 175 USD)

I'm almost 100% sure you will not see a second core. If they were going to do that, they would have already done it. The Essentials Pack was a sign that all new factions will be like the elves when released, rather than Daqan and Waiqar. I agree that it's unfortunate that you pay almost an extra 50% of the core set's cost to get an Uthuk vs. Latari "core set" experience. On the other hand, I feel like it's worth it for these two armies.

Then there is maybe other solution (if Im not in love with elves) - I will buy Core + Uthuks and will pay just little more to have 3 armies to use for demo

While I always suggest buying from a FLGS first, depending on shipping to where you live there are occasionally pretty cheap core sets for sale on ebay. I'd keep an eye out.

Getting one core set on a deal saves you from having to buy an Essentials Pack and gives you some figures to demo the game

Edit: 69 dollars on Amazon right now with Prime shipping
