So..When is Guns for Hire tournament legal?

By Rinzler in a Tie, in X-Wing

Thanks, guys - GfH is not legal for Nova Open.

I can't recall the way FFG does this.
We get a pre-release at Gen Con and then.. Is it 11 days after that or do we wait for a "street date"?

I'm asking because the NOVA Open is next weekend and I imagine I'm not the only one wondering -- right?

Edited by Rinzler in a Tie

Official tournament rules say it's legal for normal tournaments immediately upon the official release date, and 11 days later for Premier tournaments IIRC.

GenCon is NOT the official release date, so it's not legal yet. Once the official street date happens, then it's legal immediately, unless you're going to something like Nationals or Worlds. The 11 day wait only applies to those kinds of top tier tournaments.

Of course, a TO may decide to allow it in their casual tournament early anyway, which does happen in some places even though it's technically against the rules.

11 days after "street date". They shouldn't be legal for NOVA.

For Premier events, all product is legal in North America 11 days—typically the second
Monday—after the product's official release. Official dates will be updated on the Product
Legality page on our website (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/op/legality/sw).

Okay - thanks.

Good to know I don't need to plan for that now lol

Is NOVA a Premier event?

Considering it's US Nationals, yes. You can play with it in the side events though.

Willing to bet sometime early October will be the actual release.

Oh! I didn't make that connection (I've never been to NOVA, GenCon, Nationals, or Worlds, so I'm not super familiar with when and where all that stuff happens).

This is the first time US Nationals is at NOVA, though. Last year it was at Origins.

Surprised there is no street date yet

There was a mysterious "forced" order that some (most? all?) distributors had to make in time for Force Friday.

Speculations abounds. Top guesses are Legions, TLJ Core Set, and, less exciting, Guns for Hire.

If there's a TLJ core on the way to distributors for release next weekend I think we'll have all contents spoiled by Tuesday.

Yup. It's $30 msrp. Not even sure if it's x-wing related. Doubt it's guns for hire because why would that be a secret? Legion core set is being advertised at $90 msrp and an x-wing core would mostly likely be $40 msrp like the others. So , personally, I don't think it's any of those. Have to wait and see.

Clutch knowing the MSRP.

$30 sounds like it could be Guns For Hire but you're right, why keep that a secret. Could be for L5R or any number of projects - but it's gotta be Star Wars related, huh?

It's definitely a Star Wars product. But heck could be Armada

Or a grab bag box of all their Star wars games? Could be neat!

At the $30 MSRP point, that could mean that instead of going with a full core set, they're doing an aces-style pack with 2 ships (say, 1 first order and 1 resistance) and some linked missions. That's the same price point used for Imperial Aces, Rebel Aces, Imperial Veterans and Guns For Hire, anyway.

Put on a notice on the box telling people to buy the Force Awakens Core set to play with it, and you could have a neat little product to tie-in with the movie without having to issue another core set.

Of course, there's no guarantee it's X-Wing related at all. It could be a completely new game that's tied to TLJ that they can't announce yet...

that'd be weird for them to be so secretive about the G4H popping up on force friday. Even prior to gencon we knew everything in the box (well, day prior) so being so secret with it wouldnt really do anything.

Doubt its Legion. From announce to release in a week? Dont think so. Gotta build the hype first by slowly trickling the data (as is FFG's mo it seems)
Possible its TLJ stuff but usually that stuff comes out along with the movie not on force friday.

Last I checked, this being the official Force Friday 2, and the first being 2015, Force Friday is all about the upcoming movie. The first Force Friday was the opening of toy and hobby sales for all things Force Awakens; including our TFA core set. The single ship expansions for the T-70 and TIE/fo were only ANNOUNCED on Force Friday, but the core set released then and there, resulting in one of my rare gaming purchases at Target.

What we've seen leak of Force Friday 2 includes mostly Ep. VIII stuff, with a few exceptions. The Hasbro 6" Black Series is putting out a wave of mostly Last Jedi stuff, with a little nostalgia (Hoth Luke and everyone's favorite Sith Lord) and a little Rebels (Hera and Thrawn). Otherwise, its Rey, Finn, Kylo, and who or whatever the Praetorian Guard is (Roman or Romulan, by the sound of it...). That being the case, I'd expect whatever FFG is forcing on Sept. 1 is not only Star Wars related, but specifically tied to the Last Jedi.

Logic also suggests that, being secretive, whatever the Sept. 1 release may be, it does not appear on the "Upcoming" page.

Yeah, if it's got NDAs and such controlling when it can be revealed and such (which would make since for a VIII tie in)

Maybe October 5th with L5R? Maybe they're on the same boat?

Legion is announced early 2018 in the FFG article
