Do any GMs have a general suggestion on to reduce the Fame obligation for Bounty Hunters? I have ideas on what could cause the obligation to increase (word spreads of capturing a high-value bounty, hired by a well-known crime boss, etc.) but am struggling with how a PC could reduce the obligation. Maybe the hunter hasn't taken a publicized bounty in a while, thereby reducing her Fame? Any suggestions that other GMs have used will be greatly appreciated.
Bounty Hunter Fame Obligation
I like the idea of lying low for a while.
Another idea: maybe they get rid of their high-powered (and easily recognizable) armored suit or signature weapon and start from scratch in that department? Or make other efforts to make themselves temporarily less recognizable?
I think you're looking at it backward. A BH with the fame obligation generally wants to increase their fame. So time out of the spotlight and under the radar should raise it (since higher obligation is bad) and big contracts and success should lower it. It's effectively that little voice in her head telling her to keep pushing.
If she's a little too famous, I'd swap it to Notoriety or something that makes it a little more logical for overexposure.

That's a good point. I hadn't thought of the reverse. Thanks for the idea!! That opens a lot of other opportunities.
Fame isn't always positive--it could be from some form of scandal. Dealing with it might begin by dumping credits into a PR rep.

While decreasing Obligation needn't ever necessarily be a player's goal, there may be a point where it needs to be decreased, due to the party's Obligation exceeding 100. So it's always helpful to have something up your sleeve for that eventuality.
As always, it's what does the obligation mean to the player/character. What makes the character worry about the obligation, and what would make the character as free as a bird (read: no obligation)? Is it that fame is a burden and all the character wants to do is do their job well (kinda like the hound in game of thrones, he doesn't give a gundark's backside everyone knows who he is, his fame only brings him problems); or is it something to be desired and the character will feel more obligated to pursue his fame if he doesn't get that limelight? In this thread you've already seen a couple different takes for either approach.
My initial read on your post was that you had it backward because I assumed the character wanted fame. In this case, capturing high profile targets would -lower- the obligation since the character's fame is spreading (so the character worries less about how famous they are) and doing something like accepting help, using special equipment, or not living up 100% to the terms of the contract would -increase- the obligation (so the character worries about his fame more) because the character wasn't as awesome as his reputation.
