First Order Zeta Swarm

By Praetorate of the Empire, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I played around with this. It's extremely satisfying to put 5 ships on the table and fly some fun formations. I know that the incoming Harpoons will not be friendly to the list, but it is simple to fly. Long live the swarm!

  • Zeta Specialist (23) [26] x2
    • Spec Ops (0)
    • Collision Detector (0)
    • Sensor Cluster (2)
    • TIE mk II (1)
  • Zeta Squadron Pilot (16) x3

Squad points: 100/100

Very non-meta, didn't practice against ordinance carriers, but it was fun to fly without worrying about a ship or two dying in the initial dogfight.

Looks interesting; I'm always a fan of swarms!

My thoughts:

  • Fielding Zeta Squadron Pilots (as opposed to Epsilon Squadron) puts you on the same PS as the Zeta Specialist, which is good as you can chop and change movement and firing order. However, You are spending 3 points on this, and I'm pretty confident you will very rarely reap the benefit of that PS increase in any other way.
  • Sensor Cluster is a good upgrade for a low PS ship if it's being shot at - but whether you have a focus token or not, you get on average a better defence roll with Lightweight Frame.
  • Pair that with Primed Thrusters in the tech upgrade, and your existing Collision Detectors, and your TIE/sf become wonderfully flexible around debris markers - able to move through and barrel roll into, across and out of without damage.

Good thoughts, for sure. I do really enjoy the flexibility of having all PS 3, it makes formation flying fun. I'll certainly consider the change, Primed Thrusters with the TIE/sf sounds awesome!
