Timing of Rebel Nym ability and bomb "detonation"

By sinclair5150, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So here is the scenario. I have Rebel Nym and I dropped a bomblet the previous round and left it on the board. This round an enemy ship with 1 HP remaining moves up within range 1 of me and the bomb. Nym reveals dial, drops another bomblet and moves away. So at the end of the activation phase is when bombs detonate and I can use Nym's ability to keep one on the board. Do I have to choose to use his ability before resolving ANY tokens or since there are multiple simultaneous effects happening can I allow the first token to go off, hopefully killing the ship, THEN decide to leave the other one one the board?

you have multiple simultaneous effects, you choose the order in which to resolve them.

You can blow one, then decide when the next one detonates whether or not to let it.

That is my thinking as well but surprisingly, or not surprisingly, I've gotten "disagreements." LOL

on what grounds?

If I were to guess, probably that it seems "cheat-y". Bomb detonation and Nym's ability have the same trigger so I would agree do them in whatever order you like.

Yeah, just ask them to point out when nym has any timing on the ability beyond once per round.

As long as you haven't rolled dice on the bomb, you can make the choice.

I assume Nym's ability also applies to mines. And I can state the no detonation at any time during the round, right?

Mines are not a thing. Nym's ability applies to all tokens dropped by bomb upgrades whether action or dial, and applies when the chosen bomb would detonate.

Assuming you didn't already have him make a reveal bomb not go off at the end of activation, then yes he can keep one of the action bombs (that have "Mines" in the title) from exploding one time when a ship or movement templet touches it. However it is probably worth noting here that for the Cluster Mines he could only stop one of the three tokens from exploding if more than one was "hit."

Not only does his ability work on mines. They work in the same way as with the original question: if a ship goes over multiple cluster mines, he would detonate all of them even if he dies on the first. But Nym can stop that. You can even make him begin rolling at the end of the "track", so the first mine he would fly over stays on the board if you think that would be best.
