A Brave New World: Reloaded

By RufusDaMan, in X-Wing

Reload. An action that balances ordnance. So many possibilities. Imagine a world where Reload has been part of the core game since wave 1.

Now we can balance the ordnance carriers by role

Light Ordnance carriers: A-Wing, TAP, Z-95, Heavy Scycks, Protectorate, etc. Anything with only 1 missile or torpedo slot, but without a heavy focus on it. These ships remain unchanged in this regard, they aren't supposed to fire ordnance left and right, but fire the right missile at the right time, and it could be devastating.

Medium Ordnance carriers: Bomber, Y-Wing, Gunboat, Kimogilla, Slave I. etc Stuff with several ordnance slots. They gain access to Reload through free actions after moving, shooting or whatever, but they lack several upgrade slots of the same type, they shouldn't be able to equip double slotted upgrades. They would be able to fire devastating ordnance every other round.

Heavy ordnance carriers: Punisher, Scurrg, K-Wing. These ships pack heavy punches. They have access to reload through their action bar, but have several slots of the same ordnance and many ordnance slots, so they are able to shoot for several turns without reload.

Now of course these are just basic guidelines, and should be changed when looking at specific ships to give them their gimmick.

Do you think X-Wing 2.0 will incorporate the new moves, upgrades and actions to all ships? (that make sense for it obviously.)

We're going to have to see it in action on the table but the more people talk through it, the more it really doesn't seem like it going to do much at all over just spending the points on EM. The big sticker is that you have to use your action, plus take a weapons disabled token(and that's the kicker!).

Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't allow a ship to go nuts on ordnance every round, but at this point anything on that list that doesn't have huge action economy or solid defense/defensive maneuverability still isn't worth it's points to become an ordnance carrier because it will go pop too fast.

I'dd love to see this become a widespread action among many ships, unlocking the "Fighter-Bomber" archetype. Even ships like X-wings and Tie Advanced could legitimately field this action, remember how Poe and Luke both had several shots to fire.

I do hope that this becomes available through an upgrade, whether it's a Modification, Title, or otherwise. I'd love to have it on some of my ships. On the other hand, many of those ships burn down quickly. I would probably be the most tempted to run this on a Y-Wing as a committed ordinance carrier.

The Gunboat looks like it will have some action economy. With Adv Slam, it's gonna be able to reload and slam in the same turn. Plus potentisllu PtL.

If Reload will work as we think now, I hope this to be Gunboat only. I like Ordnance. And I also like it to be available in only limited numbers. Choose the best moment and lets it fly.

A Gunboat is equipped with insane numbers of missiles. So I hope Gunboat only. We will see...
