Does anyone have any good pictures of the demo playing boards use the Gen Con for Legion? I really would want to build one like the one they had for Tattooine.
Playing board pics from Gencon?
when i get home from work, I can get some posted
So here are some Pictures I took of the Star Wars Legion Demo boards at Gencon, They look great and were really fun to play on and should help with anyone wanting some ideas on creating your own.
I love seeing well made terrian, especially when it makes me realize some easy and minor changes to my existing terrain will dramatically improve it's appearance.
Great pics. The Lothal board is amazing! Simple yet comvincing terrain.
I was a big fan of the Sullust board. Looked straight out of Battlefront.
I got a pic of each.
I wonder if there's a rule on the Sullust board that says you can't end your movement on a lava crack if you're not in a vehicle.

The lava was just for decoration.

I figured as much, but if I was playing on that I feel like we'd have to say If you end your movement on lava, take a damage . or some sort of penalty.
In Battlefront if you just walked across it you were fine, but if you stood still on it you'd get hurt.
The joy of that board is it doesn't always have to be the same effect. In one game you could say the lava was impassable as the heat and such would melt armour and injure unprotected soldiers. Which would make the bridges very important. In the next game you just don't worry and play on what would almost be a complete different table.
All of those boards look gorgeous and expensive to make. It would be quite a daunting task to try and recreate them.

They are very nice...but you could mostly recreate them using household objects, modelling materials...and imagination. There are a lot of terrain tutorials online, Beasts of War do a weekly hobby show that includes terrain making and modelling...it's worth trying to find the Hoth board they made a while ago.

They aren't as expensive as they look (materials wise anyway).
A more modular and only somewhat less detailed table could be made for less than $100.
....do I need to make a tutorial?

Of course!

We need a modeling subforum already!

No kidding...

But give us something to put in there.
How would you suggest the Moisture Vaporisers be done?
And the Tantoonie houses?
Tatooine houses can be made with either foam, or if your totally broke and unskilled, the free cardstock templates I'll be posting once I've had a chance to update them. (Unless you still have the old ones from back when I had a website).
Vaporators can be made with sparkplugs, polystyrene tubes, and a little paint.
Yes, I'm making a list of video tutorials I think I need to make.
Some of the more mechanical looking things at GenCon were 3D printed.
Building wargame tables comes down to a few factors. Size, money, detail, and time. You have to decide what you want and the resources you have available. This is a Wargame, not a board game. Every time I read somebody complaining about painting or building, I just want to point them to Imperial Assault. It's a fantastic board game. But if you are genuinely interested in getting into Wargames, welcome. Youtube is an AMAZING resource to learn about building terrain, modular terrain, or tables. Go! watch a hundred videos. You'll learn quickly that while you will need money; it's the time, patience, and love of the craft that you'll need more of. If you're new, start small. play on a blank surface and build tiny terrain elements like rocks or trees or bushes. If you enjoyed that, move onto a building or bridge. From there the only thing stopping you is your imagination. Learn from this community, watch videos. Don't sweat the money. You'll need that for all the minis and paint lol
Lets see if we can get a terrain/painting subforum.
