It is, as with everything First Order, breathtakingly stupid looking. And at the 7700 meters they quote, that would mean the "Ludicrous" guns underneath it are going to be large enough to fly a CR90 down (if not a Nebulon-B)...

A Nebulon B? Those things are the size of a Star Destroyer.

So apparently the two absurdly sized weapons on the underside are designed specifically for planetary bombardment. As @xanderf noted, the scale means they are easily large enough to fly a smaller warship into.

So why the heck does the First Order need to build a superweapon into the core of a planet which then needs to consume all the energy of a nearby star when they could just build a dozen of these instead for a fraction of the price and exterminate planetary life nearly anywhere they want?

I think we have cracked the case of how they will destroy this big sucker. Fly a Corvette with big old bombs down the big old gun and blow up the big old ship.... Would not be shock.

Admiral so and so: "I have an idea, bring up the hammerhead with external racks and all those bombs we conveniently stored on it."

Look and size are fine if you ask me. The mega-cannons are really overkill though. Where the **** do they have a power-core big enough for those things?

I actually like the design. It's different and with the big cannon on the underside it has a function we haven't seen before.

The thing is huge, there must be some gigantic power need, would not be surprised if a big part of the ship is dedicated to power

Maybe it's a mistake and it's 2500 feet. So 850m ish

I think the ship looks cool.

Those guns look completely stupid though. Looks like a GI Joe toy.

Probably designed specifically with toys in mind...

You can even see where the nerf darts will fit in it.

It is said to be meant to bombard a planet, ISDs and SSDs do that well enough and leave the planet at a molten slag state. The only reason it has those guns is so they can have a scene where it is going to threaten a planet and the Resistance has to go in there and blow them up before they finish charging up to fire. Calling that scene right now.

The AT-M6 has it too!

I'll forgive the AT-ApeT if it rears up and punches something in the movie.

I would like to clarify, while I liked the post, I don't actually like the ship. I hate it. But I really like @melminiatures for doing the size comparison! As for the ship I think it looks like the plans were based on a drawing by a 6 year old (especially the guns).

I really hope this isn't the"Something Big" FFG alluded too.

I'll reserve judgement on whether I like it or not till I see it on the big screen, but I can say right now it's really far down the list of ships I want for Armada

The size is fine; it's less than half the size of the Executor - I think it's more it looks wrong because of the proportions (needs to be thinner; but scaling is always a problem in space). Also it's all too flat.

The scaling of the smaller weapons seems a bit off as well - at a very rough estimate those turrets are about 50m across, and the aerials over 100m long. The gun turrets(?) at the back corners are also pretty big, and the bridge structure seems unnecessarily impractical (a long way to go around to get to the ends).

The dent in the middle is interesting - presumably meant to mirror the dome underneath the ISD? But the other way up. And if that's a wing near the front, that could be nice.

On the big gun underneath... maybe it will "deploy" - so normally be tucked into the main hull, but be lowered when the ship wants to flatten a city/continent/planet? That could be quite neat; I can imagine a sequence in the film where the canon is deploying and the Resistance have to get their Bombers in close enough to take it out before it's fully lowered and charged. Although that might be a bit too similar to TFA. And ANH.

I love the design. Looks great to me. If you aren't bothered by the Executor SSD then the size of this probably shouldn't bother you too much. If you add in the Eclipse from Legends, which had its own superlaser, then this really is barely a drop in the super-sized pond.

They showed an image of the weapons stowed and they look pretty good that way. I'm excited to see how they use the ship.

I dunno, man - maybe it's from too many years spent walking dogs that REALLY NEED TO MARK THEIR TERRITORY, but...man, this new First Order Dreadnought looks *really dumb*.

(Yeah, that's right - now all y'all can't unsee it, either! :P )

We were all thinking it, you just said it. It does look rather hung... ?

So many agrees here.

Very unispired design. Wish it was more or less Resurgent size. I hope they find an old hammerhead and ram those barrels. Just a dumb design. Wish it was a single coaxial gun at least.

7,800 meters...

Give it 30 years and they will grow the Canon size to 19,000 meters just because bigger is better.

I really want to like the new trilogy. I will go see the movie, more than once, looking for things to like.

But Seriously! Is the new trilogy design team trying to make the Dark Empire comics look really good! Because Starkiller base made me miss the Galaxy Gun, and this is making me miss the Eclipse! If we get some weird version of the World Devastators in Episode 9, I may need to go all Highlander on the Star Wars trilogies.

(Just pretend they only made one.) ;)

This, sequel doesn't seem the correct word after A New New Hope and all, design looks just makes me want Jaxxon and the Rabbit's Foot for X-wing and the next Armada squadron pack. Yes, I said it, I'll take a six foot tall carnivorous rabbit over these ugly things.

You are going to a very dark time in Star Wars. I don't think I can follow you down that rabbit hole.

As has been noted elsewhere...

..."The EU died for this"

I was almost willing to accept the horrific laziness of TFA as a balance to the PERFECTLY on-point work we saw in 'Rogue One'...but, wow, these latest reveals...dayum. This burns. Here's holding a candle for the 'Han Solo' movie to somehow restore balance to the Force...
