Accounting for the 35 upgrade cards

By chemnitz, in Star Wars: Legion

We know that the core set includes 35 upgrade cards. We also know a quite a few names of cards, but we do not know how many of each card will be included. I ran the numbers, and if they include enough copies of every card so that both sides can field as many as possible, then we may already have all 35 cards accounted for:

2x Extra Stormtrooper
2x DLT-19 Stormtrooper
2x HH-12 Stormtrooper
2x Extra Rebel Trooper
2x Z-6 Trooper
2x MPL-57 Ion Trooper
2x Long-Range Comlink
1x AT-RT Flamethrower
1x AT-RT Laser Cannon
1x AT-RT Rotary Blaster
1x Jedi Mind Trick (Light Side)
1x Force Choke (Dark Side)
2x Force Push
2x Saber Throw
2x Battle Meditation
2x Force Reflexes
4x Targeting Scopes
4x Concussion Grenades

=35 Total

I would guess that there are not 4x Targeting Scopes and Concussion Grenades, which would leave one or two cards still unknown. One of those unknown cards is probably a useful equipment upgrade for Luke. But I could be wrong.

great job

Great list. That being said, in the Runewars core box there is not enough of each "neutral" upgrade card to be fielded by both armies at the same time, far from it. But they won't necessarily follow that distribution model for Legion...

Does anyone know the points costs for the upgrades one wants one's theorycraft.

that reddit post has a good breakdown

Do we know if someone can buy-in on only one faction for Legion?

Talking of upgrade cards: if I want to play imperial, will I have to buy some rebel units just to get a hold of some upgrade that cannot be found in an imperial unit box?

Anyone heard anything?

Nothing is confirmed, but everything so far indicates that you should be able to play only one faction. RuneWars I believe supports this as well.

I really couldn’t seem them forcing a player to purchase an opposing factions forces just for cards. I can’t remember 100% but the Runerwars trooper expansions included cards that were exclusive to that faction. You could use the cards with the included troops and others with in your army.

X wing and armada both require you to purchase the opposing side’s expansions for certain cards. I suspect tha Legion will follow this trend. It will make them a lot more money.

I think there’s gonna be 4 grenades and 4 targeting scopes actually. Because all stormtroopers and rebel troopers can take grenades and targeting scopes, so it makes sense for 4 cards for 4 core units

2x Saber Throw strikes me as unlikely, since Luke has a blaster already, and he needs an upgrade for it anyways.

Luke’s lightsaber has impact while the blaster doesn’t if I rmb correctly. So there’s still a case to be made for saber throw on luke

Four Targeting Scopes isn't enough if you want one for everyone who can take them. There's five units in the Core Set with that upgrade slot (Luke, 2x Rebel Troopers, 2x Stormtroopers).

I think Targeting Scopes on Luke is pretty much a waste of points though; his blaster only has 2 dice to begin with, and his lightsaber will roll 2 or fewer blanks more often than not. So using an aim token to re-roll 3 dice instead of 2 is usually not going to be that useful for him. I'll be a little disappointed if there isn't at least one other equipment upgrade in the core set that is more appropriate for Luke.

Granted. I'm not really saying it's good, I'm just saying it's legal, which was the premise of the OP.

Will the upgrade cards in the expansions for one side be in the same type of expansion for the other side?

So far, yes (impact grenades, grappling hooks and comms jammer cards feature in the respective box content images of both sides).

We also have a verbal from alex in an interview and theres a letter doing the rounds saying the same from asmodee support.

We'll see what happens when we get to wave 2

In Runewars they fixed that. I have no reason to suspect they would regress with this newest title.
