Best Eagles deck?

By farealh, in Strategy and deck-building

Mae Govannen!

First time posting here at the forums. I started playing last year and I already have a decent card pool and, as such, I've started putting together decks to lend to other people to play with them. Out of all the archetypes more or less developed in the game so far, the only one I can't find a great—and thematic—decklist to start working with is Eagles. Do you have any competitive (and hopefully thematic) Eagle decklist you'd like to share? Thanks a lot in advance! :D

The eagles were the first "theme" to build a deck around. They are quite powerfull but a bit to much focussed on only one aspect of the game - combat. Even with a modern card pool eagles playing is a bit slow (and in my opinion: unsatisfying). Dwarfs were the second one. More versatile and today still powerfull.

That beeing said, I cannot provide a link to a (good, working) eagle deck.

As eagles are expensive, they need some time to set up. Also, pure tactics only way to draw cards is with Foe-Hammer, which requires a weapon attachment (which is not really in the focus of the theme of the eagles). Additionaly, eagles cannot quest effective. My approach was always to send heroes to quest and let the eagles do the combat.

This is why I'd look for decks with Eowyn and/or Gandalf on ringsdb.com to start with building an own deck. ;)

ps: not much of a help, I know. but probably some insights...

Thanks a lot for your insights! I appreciate them :D

I made a Hirgon deck the other day that is an Eagle deck. Him + Mablung + Elrond with Vilya = lots of eagles quickly entering play. It's a combat deck and not intended for solo play.

I think this is the first time I've seen Gwaihir in a deck. Besides combat, I think Seige/Battle questing works well with eagles. Even just Vassal of the Windlord and Winged Guardian contribute a decent share to questing in that format.

It isnt really an "eagle" deck, but I used a eagles to support a Bard Sniping Deck that I enjoyed.

I also made one of those recently, and I think that Hirgon will be a common hero to use with Eagles because of his cost reduction. Unless you add in Elrond or resource generation (and, of course, card draw), Eagles can be a little slow!

My deck is rather different from yours, and I think not as good: http://ringsdb.com/deck/view/68394

Thanks everybody for your recommendations! I think I already have an idea for a thematic (and hopefully competent) deck based upon a tale from The Silmarillion which includes Eagles and Noldor ;)

This is my latest Eagle deck, also with Hirgon. It is built for solo play but works fine in multiplayer too.
