Possible heavy unit discussion

By JoeVandal49, in Star Wars: Legion

So i know everyone wants an AT-AT. We know there will likely be AT-ST, and even the creator mentioned snow speeders.

So the question is, what else would you like to see, or what else do you think we could possibly see?

Jabbas Sail Barge anyone ?

The Star Wars Commander mobile game has quite a few vehicles at a perfect scale for this game, and I believe that game might even make those vehicles canon.

ATATs would be massive, unless they scale them down i dont even expect them for "Epic' play.

At 28mm scale, an ATAT would be 80cm tall. For imperial measurement people, thats just over 30 inches tall. It would be just about as long as well.
You have any idea how expensive a model that size with good detail would be? Lemmie put it this way, Forgeworld sells something called a Warlord Titan and its 22.5 inches tall and is 1250BP, or 1600USD with current conversions.

An ATAT with any real detail/structure integrity to hold such size firmly, even if done by a company that isnt a moneygrubbing snob, would still be several hundred USD, closer to 1000

Hi mate can you please spell out your maths here because I get a different conclusion.

So Wookieepedia puts the height of an AT-AT at 22.5m. so if we take Luke's height to be roughly 6" (1.8m) that means that an AT-AT is 12.5 times Luke's height. The number quoted for Luke's mini height that I have heard is 35mm ish. So this puts an AT-AT mini at roughly 44cm which is still large but with a sliding scale could definitely be usable.

Please point out any flaws in my logic.

At 28mm Luke would be 28mm, not 35mm.

Agreed and that just makes the AT-AT more plausible. However I have heard from Sorastro that Luke's actual mini is 35mm so that's what I based my maths on.

Off of the AT-AT topic.... Golan Defense turrets like they had on Hoth as heavy support?

Could see them doing it in the future, for the interim I would imagine they will want to focus on "fast dynamic combat" rather than static support.

Something I toyed with back in the day:

Big heavy vehicles sound cool, but they take up so much space, they become hard to actually field.

By comparison there's vehicles like ULAVs, TIE Crawler/Mauler, AT-PT, AT-DP, Chariot Speeders, Compact Assault Vehicles, hoverscouts, Storm skimmers, Firehawke S-1, The entire line of Imperial Repulsor tanks and saber tanks...

Lots of options, and that's not even talking aircraft.

They may have to monkey with scales a little to make it fit, but FFG wouldn't be the first to do such a thing...

The TX-225 is probably pretty likely. It's not very big, so if made to scale it won't eat up tablespace, and it's all weapons forward design is somewhat self-balancing. Being part of the "new hotness" ain't bad either.

The Chariot command speeder, if made to "official" scale is massive for just a speeder. That said, it suffers from the old WEG Meter:Feet conversion issue. If they resize it's list scale to feet, then is much more feasible, and the average gamer won't know the difference, as it'll actually be about the size of a large SUV. Only us grognards will spot the difference.

Generally for miniature scale, the 28mm, 32mm and 54mm designations refer to height of the miniatures up to its eye's, not the top of its head.

Here are two pictures of the WOTC AT-AT miniature for their game years ago which is at a slightly smaller scale than IA which means if they go for an in scale model of an AT-AT for Legion means it would be larger. It isn't impossible to get an AT-AT in this game but it will most likely be expensive and a tad unwieldy. The WOTC one was $100 or so back in the day so expect a similar price point if FFG deems to add it to the game, and I wouldn't be surprised if it counted as two or three heavy units as far as list building goes, probably would even have some kind of super armor that can cancel at least one or two Critical Hits rolled against it.

Not the one from rogue one please... That is a cargo and uses normal tank threads. Originally the movie was to feature a TX-225 GAVr (note the r) which is a hover combat tank. This has been finally used in the new comics and looks great with the new hover tank pilot helmet on top of it! But the one from the movie makes no sense in my opinion unless I have to transport kyber Cristal's or something in a mission scenario

It could be used as a troop transport, or have a rear mounted weapon (rotary blaster, heavy blaster)

I'm betting money on AT-STs, the TX-225 and Hoth-style turrets. WEG lost me with their Snowspeeder rules back in the days so I'm not pumped seeingthem in Legion but I'm pretty sure FFg will add them to the game.

I would love seeing AT-DPs on the Imperial side, as well as AT-TEs or AT-APs (Old Republic ordnance in Rebel use...) and Juggernauts (Pleeeeeaaaaseee... I loved seeing it in Rogue One!).

The best walkers IMO are the classic ones, the prequel walkers only had one decent walker and is already in game. so Kudos to FFG :)
AT-ST is a must, is the best walker that fits in this scale (We will not see AT-ATs), maybe another classic EU walker could fit well if modeled properly, the AT-PT they are more or less the size of the "Warhammer Imperial Guard Sentinel" and I believe that is the coolest mini of the Imperial guard (Astra militarum now).

I add an image for quick reference. Was thinking on adding also a sentinel image but dunno if that is maybe against forum rules.

That would be really sweet if they did something stationary like turrets.

**** yea!

I'll be amazed if the AT-AT isn't in this game eventually. It could easily be around the size of the X-Wing epic ships, if they take a few liberties with the scale

I would prefer not to see AT-AT here. This game is not aboug Hoth. This game is about small skirmishes. Hit and run rebel tactics. Imperial raids on Rebel outpsts. This kind of war. I'm fine with epic scale as far as it will not be required purchase like xwing. FFG likes to put some cards to epic modelst that fix other, badly balanced models. Like 'We have made it wrong and we fix it for You but only if You buy this new huge model from us. Expensive and You will never use it but You will have Your small fighter we have badly balanced fixed.' This kind of attitude plus power creep have made me stop playing xwing. So I have bad feelings about AT-AT.

AT-ATs aren't quite to the scale of jamming Star Destroyers into X-Wing, but close. If I were really a fan of infantry level combat, I wouldn't want to see them. The only way to destroy them is with other armor, specifically air support (X-Wings, inventive snow speeders). Baze took a shot at one with a rocket launcher that probably would have knocked out an AT-ST, but not an AT-AT.

My interest in this game however, is proportional to the number of armored units (not necessarily AT-ATs) in the game. Right now it's zero. When someday they roll/walk out tanks and walkers, then I'll be interested. It can't just be stormtroopers and speederbikes.

Somebody should throw an IA model next to an X-Wing Gozanti for comparison. My guess is a Gozanti-sized AT-AT would look fitting.

I posted a picture above of a AT-AT that is around the scale of IA miniatures so an AT-AT in this game would be around that size through probably a little larger. It is doable, but expensive.

EaW would be a good place to start.

T2-B and T4-B for Rebels. AT-ST and Tie Mauler for Imps. In the GenCon demo, I think Alex said something about artillery, so that would be the SPMA and MPTL. I don't think those would make it into this game because they are fairly large and more importantly, their range would be massive.

AT-ATs would not be reasonable at this scale. I know it could be done (like titans could be done in WH40K) but it would be something that 99% of players couldn't afford and even for the crazy 1% fielding more than one would be mad.

AT-ST would be in for sure (and it would be quite massive)

TX-225 (tankish thing from rogue one) seems to be a hot bet
