Tin Foil Hat Area: FFG Planning for the End

Dang. Back off the Lambda. It’s an elegant and iconic ship. A good portion of X-Wing sales are people who want something to sit on a desk or shelf. The shuttle would be an excellent candidate for that.

Not to mention, with possible revivals due to rules tweeks and things like more Vader crew, it’s not inconceivable that even at a competitive level the Lambdas could return.

I run a 16 player, 4 table, 4 hours a day for 4 days, XWing/Armada narrative event every March. I could totally see grabbing another Lambda for that.

Edit: also this (taken from Q4 thread)

Eventually palp aces will be all alt art cards...

Horton gets alt art, still no EPT.

There is already:
Inquisitor
Soontir Fel
Omicron Group Pilot

Hmm.
I think it is a long way to have autothrusters, Royal Guard and v1 titles, stealth device as alt art cards as well. Palpatine I can see coming sooner or later.
Not sure, there was a predator alt art card, but I think they never made a PTL alt, right?

So still a long way to go for a complete alt art Palp Aces. I doubt they will ever complete them all.

There is a PTL card with an Interceptor, was in the seasonal kit after the Soontir store champs I believe.

I was thinking the Vader flavor of palp aces but yeah that one works to.

Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie: An Effective, Low-Cost Solution To Combating Mind-Control

But seriouly, why are you all saying this game is dying? It is about to recieve life with the coming of The Alpha-class Star Wing!

ALL HAIL GUNBOAT SAVIOUR OF THE EMPIRE

foil covered GUMMIBOATS are the best, keeps em fresh and safe from the reptilians and greys.

What about Destiny? Will that end too?

I really, really doubt that X-wing will be cancelled altogether. It's simply a bad business move (especially since Armada and Netrunner are fairly distant seconds in terms of popularity). However, with Disney warming to their movie-a-year Star Wars regimen, the next six months are going to be FFG's last chance for a very long while to introduce a Revised / 2.0 edition.

I wouldn't be surprised if FFG is clearing out all their current warehouse stock in order to start bringing in patches for a reboot. That may also explain why they brought the gunboat out now - to keep everyone happy while the transition takes place. Gunboats are morphine to X-wings plastic crack...

As for X-wing as long as they are selling and Disney is satisfied FFG will continue to make them. Heck if after the movies and FFG needs more design space they could always go with 2.0.

I think the only thing that can pull FFG out of X-wing is if Disney pulls a Games Workshop and revokes the licenses. As for what we have right now that is very unlikely in the near future.

FFG clearly is just pulling cash out of every game that are working as they introduce even more games. They're lack of issuing the rest of the balance FAQ from almost a year ago, coupled with all of the unanswered clarification questions from this years waves, to their inability to communicate about the game state in general, shows the health of X-Wing is not important to them....not as long as they make money. The game has never been this stale and unbalanced, given the massive plethora of ship options; there are very few that are even competitive, and the ones that really are, are clearly OP and poorly designed.

Lots of customers are saying, "the game is dying."

FFG says, "................."

The old expression fits: silence conveys consent.

If i only had a nickel for everytime someone posted "the meta has never been this stale and unbalanced" then I'd already have those last few expansions I want. This has been a recurring complaint for years, I'm no happier with the current meta than a lot of the posters here, but it's been this way many, many.....many times before. Just with different offenders.

But this is the first time that the basic game fundamentals that got us all hooked into a game we love have been basically pushed aside; arced ships piloted about the mat and dials that are secret until revealed.

Plus very flexible ships with high PS, turrets, bombs, other powerful munitions and crew relegated to two factions only, leaving one completely wanting = super imbalance.

Except I remember people making the same argument with Fat Han . So this really is nothing new.

Lot of other good stuff in here I have to respond to..

But at that time, were there "Fat Hans" in each faction? Scum and Rebels both dominated by very forgiving and crazy high PS turrets. Imperials are the only faction where turrets aren't op and, go figure, the deci is one of two viable options for the faction.

Until they nerfed the tie phantom, yes. That's why Fat Han got and stayed popular. It was the best way to handle pre nerf whisper, and unfortunately a good counter to a lot of other things afterwards. And there were only two factions when that started, and then they added scum which didn't get crazy good until the jump master dropped.

Oh, and the biggest imbalance @FlyingAnchors: bombs!

Two factions are excellent at it and the other is not only sub-par in equipment and crew, they have been seemingly purposefully designed to be inferior in every way bombs can be utilized and or countered. Not only is the non-bombing faction missing this massive game ability, most of their best ships cannot handle bombs at all; bombs were designed to counter this faction.

Explain that away with "oh, I remember this all happened before...."

....oh, and Wave 13 gives this faction another ship that cannot deal with high PS advanced Sensors bombing with turrets. But hey, one of the good factions gets another bombing platform.

Yeah.....great design there.

Listening to the Mynock+Kryats podcast (http://mynockpodcast.libsyn.com/) and someone stated their theory that the coming of the Gunboat means X-Wing is waning.
No big deal. This isn't a shocking or unrealistic notion - we've all been a bit restless recently and the game's popularity has definitely peaked (assertion). Then I checked out the Upcoming (print) page:

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/upcoming/

Take a look. As of the beginning of August, FFG is reprinting just about everything for X-Wing.. I mean, Phantoms and the original Falcon? I can see certain reprints -- Rebel Aces for the sake of the new A-Wing -- but they're reprinting the original Core Set and the Lambda, ffs. This is a standard practice for most product life-cycles: stock the shelves before a phase-out and eventual discontinuation.

I know people will argue this and that's what I'm looking for, but unless you can call out another point in this game's life-cycle where they reprinted everything, I'm not sure you'll convince me.

I think that they are more likely gearing up to a spike in popularity from the movie as was the case with the force awakens.

But the question is what are your feelings on turrets dominating the game and all but removing primary arcs?

Not to mention the upcoming holiday season. they are restocking shelves like every other company in the world is doing over next 6 weeks getting ready for black friday.

Me? Yes, they probably do need to be kept safe from me.

Actually, I just bought a new leopard gecko and named it Juno because one of it's genes is called Eclipse.

nah, bombs are fine. Okay, maybe not cluster mines, but everything else alright. Nym has the same problem pre-nerf whisper had: not only do I move after you, I move in such a way I break the game to the point you don't get to play at all. It's PS wars + Game breaking mechanic 2.0, just involving 100% more cluster mines, and 0% more cloak action.
