Force Friday

How long before they realize that by not promoting and pushing thier top product it is no longer thier top product?

and worse...

Do they even care?

They might not have promoted your top product but they did promote their top product.

X-Wing is fine as is. It isn't something that can sell in Target; they tried that already. FFG had to put a product out that could sell in a big box store. Destiny is their top seller, so they went with that.

I would have loved to get some XWM love for FF, but I would rather get info more frequently. I think that if all this ire spurs an outcome, it will be FFG withholding info UNTIL Force Friday.

If they had gone silent for months then dropped the starwing wave + S&V aces previews today, folks would be wetting themselves with glee.

Don't train FFG to hold back!

I was amongst the many who asked FFG a couple years ago for slower releases, and a more manageable pace. The fact that we a are not being flooded means they listened. I would still not be suprised to get some new information before the weekend is out. But either way X-Wing is in a good place. (Once we reign in attani((though I think people are getting bored of it)).

Destiny arguably needs the boost right now. It's still a young game, and the early distribution problems undoubtedly turned people away. Something like this set, with it's wide availability and high visibility, can only help the game. X-Wing isn't in a position where it needs that kind of help.

So the resistance flagship is a mon cal ship named "Raddus". It's about 3km long, so the same size as the FO star destroyer, but much smaller than the other two much larger destroyer types.

I see what they did there.

Didn't armada, destiny, and rebellion all get pushed at Gen-Con too?

Isn't this the second year in a row to get nothing on the biggest Star Wars merch day of the year?

I might be misremembering. Please tell me if I am. I'd like FFG to be doing better with xwing than I think they are.

Define "Pushed".

If you mean "Pushed" as in, "Advertised", then Legion was top god.

Destiny got the reminder that their Sabine-Fronted Kit is coming...

Then X-Wing was the next biggest with the Wave announcement...

...

Beyond that, IA was "The app is coming, its almost here."

And then Armada was "We're working on something big."

That was it for them.

It is the Second year in a Row for X-Wing to not get anything on Force Friday, correct.

But they also got something 2 years ago, which is something the other games cannot say.

X-Wing was also the only miniature game to get something specific for the 40th Anniversary of SW as well, since it half-gelled with the 5 year anniversary of X-Wing.

X-Wing was also the only miniatures game to get something for Father's Day as well...

So, X-Wing is still the Top Dog. Even if things are not as big and as flashy as they once were for X-Wing, you're still doing better than the other guys... I mean, heck, Armada's still #4 of the same list that X-Wing is up there on, and for a game that is derided as much as it is, that's a pretty good showing.

Also at the time of Force Friday last year they already had 5 expansions announced.

People are reading a lot into FFG not posting an article today considering it is not their call when to do that.

The Mouse is in charge guys. Settle down.

Yeah, they probably had an article for X-Wing ready to go but Disney said "Hey, pump the brakes. On this day of all days when everyone who licenses stuff out from us is pumping out Star Wars news about all of their new products for the new movie, well, you guys aren't allowed to."

Sure, makes sense.

Also, the Rogue One didn't have quite the merchandising push as TFA and TLJ. As evidenced as they are branding this as Force Friday II. Personally, I am glad that FFG didn't rush out an expansion in order to meet the Force Friday deadline.

Can I just point out that the FO and the T-70 expansions were announced on September 10th? Chill, guys.

Businesses promote the thing they are trying to sell. Why would they take your attention off of destiny's new gateway product with an x-wing product announcement? Because you need some consolation prize?

Managing a bunch of game lines that potentially canabalize each other means you need to give each one it's own time to shine and attract attention.

Its smart communication practices like this that tempt your short attention span into to buing all the starwars games!

Pretty sure last year they announced the TLJ ships on Saturday after Force Friday.

They have to read it, decide if they're okay with every comment, and approve it. There are hundreds of companies making Star Wars products and statements about those products.

I doubt they're maliciously holding anything back ever, but there are approval delays. Those kinds of pipelines are probably last in, last out. If FFG submitted their proposed text late they could just be sitting in an inbox.

Force Friday was on September 4th 2015. So hopefully by end of week if they have anything to announce we will see it by end of next week

Two issues with this:

1) I don't think FFG has ever, and I mean EVER posted an announcement on the weekend. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure everything is M-F. Yeah, they can time an update, but they haven't.

2) It's Labor Day weekend, folks! Let the hard working people who design our plastic spaceships enjoy the weekend, go to some barbecues, enjoy a beer, that kind of stuff. X-Wing will still exist on Tuesday.

I mean, I would like some kind of announcement, sure. I was a little disappointed that the product wasn't X-Wing related, sure. But anything that gets more exposure for FFG is good for all their game lines. A rising tide lifts all boats and all that.

They did drop the Thrawn news for Armada the following week though.

True, but that's also the first Armada news since early July (discounting a rules update in mid July). And during that time, X-Wing has had the wave 11 release, the preview articles for the individual ships of the Guns For Hire pack, and the wave 12 announcement. That's also discounting two 101 articles put up for X-Wing.

Even without an announcement this weekend, X-Wing is still ahead of Armada.

In 2015, Force Friday was on September 4. Article announcing the T-70 and TIE/fo expansions came out on September 10: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/9/10/fight-a-bigger-battle/

They had previously announced, and released, the TFA core set, but unlike the expansions, that was available in big box retail stores. Everything released on "Force Friday" was available at Target, for example. They came out at the same time as the movie: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/12/17/join-the-resistance/

In 2016, they had a Force Friday event on September 30th for Rogue One. This wasn't as big of a push. The U-Wing and TIE Striker expansions were announced on September 2nd: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/9/2/go-rogue/

Again, these two expansions weren't technically part of the "Force Friday" event. They weren't actually released until the movie came out.

I'd expect to see the TLJ ships for X-Wing to be announced sometime in the next couple weeks, with an expected release date in December, to coincide with the movie release. They don't want to announce product on Force Friday that isn't available on Force Friday - that's something Disney would discourage. And since expansions don't get sold in the big box stores, they weren't going to push for the expansions to release on Force Friday.

Still hooked for a monday announcement that may or may not come. It's terrible how much I actually care about some news about plastic spaceships.

Anyway: Wake up America! It's almost noon in the old world!

Sadly, it is a holiday here. May want to temper expectations.

On one hand, I'm stuck working on call for my *** job today (and all weekend, and all last week. And have barely slept), so they can probably handle logging in remotely and hitting submit.

on the other, I wouldn't wish this on anyone and where I'm determined to find a better job I'd hate moral at FFG to be so low as this.
