Force Friday

By Sir13scott, in X-Wing

I saw a pic earlier where someone had asked a store owner who was hyping it up if it was X-Wing-related and the owner who has already ordered the items was being coy but did said "the magic 8-Ball says 'likely.'" They are also advertising for people to come out and play X-Wing all day Fri and Sat, with a special format someone created being used. People play Destiny there, a lot of X-Wing players in fact, but they didn't say anything about "Come celebrate and play some Destiny!"

So if it is Destiny-related, I'm gonna be pretty disappointed.

Stores don't actually know. The product was bought blind and is scheduled to be delivered on Friday.

But you should totally bring some games and play Star Wars stuff this Friday

I would think it would arrive before that. especially if a store wanted to do a midnight release or have it on the shelf right when they open.

What if it's a mission/campaign pack with exclusive missions for use with the new ships from The Last Jedi?

EDIT: And it could come with new obstacle types that could be used in standard play! That would be awesome.

Well I don't really know. I can't think of what it could possibly be for X-Wing, given the price. Too cheap for a TLJ core set, even if they drop it down to just one ship vs one ship. Two ship packs have cost $29.99, but they don't include dice, rule books, and all the extra cards and cardboard, which all increase the price. So maybe it's just some kind of two pack, like an Ace/Veterans pack, like the Silencer and an A-Wing. It just seems odd that they'd do it that way rather than independently.

I won't exactly be let down if it's not X-Wing though. I'm curious to see what it will be, even if it's something I don't play, like a new RPG product (unless it's Destiny, because then I'll be extremely let down).

It's a product line run by the House of Mouse, I'm guessing the reveal is going to happen nationwide on THEIR timetable not what is best for stores.

the Reddit link you're looking for is here:

The Kylo Ren they refer to was "leaked" in the middle of the Polish leak of SoR in MARCH. It was discounted as a fake immediately because the quality was weird and the "starter rarity"

That said - many things line up now:

-We have a rumored 2-player starter coming this week
-It's on Force Friday so the starter would be Last Jedi themed (like the Force Awakens Core Set for X-Wing that was unannounced)
-Kylo is wearing his Last Jedi outfit and look --- which when this card leaked (March) had not been revealed (April)
-No one can find this art of Kylo anywhere on the internet
-The reminder text for the ability exactly matches the spoiler for EAW card "Secret Mission" down to the oxford comma.
-The artist has only done one Star Wars Destiny card (Jabba the Hutt), which was a repurposed image. That was a yellow card, so it'd be an obscure obscure artist pull for a fake blue card.
-The guess a color mechanic has been shown to be in the game in EAW.

Since then someone leaked an image of the Phasma card, which continues to back up the Reddit story.

Until that guy posted on Reddit, the Kylo card (which had been floating around since March) - was universally considered to be fake. Now the Destiny community largely believes it's real and coming this week.

We got the gunboat only slightly less asked for is a hotac style campaign. I am crossing fingers as $30 seems about right for that. Nothing but cardboard and templates in there.

If it is destiny junk my money is safe, to each their own but I have 0 interest in destiny.

True but I doubt the mouse wants consumers lined up at stores, waiting for them to open and not have the item on the shelves because UPS doesn't drop off till after 4:00.

If it's X-Wing related, it will have miniatures. There is simply no way that a day with this much hype would just be some cardboard that won't draw the eye of a new customer as much as new ships.

I really am starting to think it's going to be a destiny 2 player starter. Maybe the force awakens core set didn't bring as much new blood? Not sure how you could judge that, but either way maybe they are trying to expand the destiny player base?

Anyway, here are my thoughts for what it will be, in descending order:

1) Destiny 2 player set

2) X-wing 2 ship pack

3) new deck building or WHQ inspired card game

4) RPG product

I posted the pic in question. I asked the guy and he says he has no idea what it actually is. He was just messing with me about the magic 8-ball. Nothing to read into here.

Why are people thinking it's going to be one thing or another?

"Force Friday II weekend kicks off on September 1st, and with it the launch of new products inspired by The Last Jedi."

Products. Plural. Inspired by The Last Jedi.

FFG have a number of systems which could feature "products inspired by The Last Jedi" . X-Wing is just one of them.

The manager of my local FLGS said whatever it is weighs less than 1.5 pounds, and they were required to commit to it blind. They won't even receive it until Friday.

Yeah, I'm impressed how tight-lipped everyone has been.
Prevailing guesses make me believe some people know but the masses do not - and that is good business.

I am praying it's X-Wing... obviously.

You and me both.

A general question to all; some people (myself included) have speculated that the new product is the Resistance Bomber. While I believe it is a contender, I rather hope it is not. I'm not a fan of the design (i don't think it is bad, but it does seem bland to me), and I'm not really all the interested in another beefy large base ship for Rebels right now, especially if it is kitted out to be a bomber.

Would anybody be excited if this was what comes out on Force Friday?

It really can't be.

I mean, stores can hardly be required to commit to buying something blind if it was, could they? After all, not all stores stock X-Wing. If you were a store owner and had to buy a few hundred dollars of a product without knowing what it was, and then when you got it, it wasn't something you could easily sell as you have no X-Wing inventory...you'd be pretty ticked, yes?

It could maybe be some kind of stripped-down 2-ship 'intro' core set to X-Wing, but not anything else. It ha s to be a standalone thing, whatever it is, given the requirement that stores buy it blind without any information on what existing products it may or may not require.

Ooh, a weight!

So for comparison (taken off Amazon listings):

Destiny starter: 1lb

X-Wing FA Starter: 1.6 lbs

Gozanti: 1.4 lbs

Imp Vets: .5 lbs

Speculate away?

I'm actually surprised at the weight of Destiny stuff to be honest. Those dice are hefty, and makes me think the 2-player starter is unlikely.

That is a fair point, if this product is going for a wide scale market, a simple expansion wouldn't be a good choice, while the cut down core might be tolerable to even non-standard stores.

Hey, if it ends up being the resistance bomber I would buy one in a split second. Having a Rebel large ship that isn't a CEC freighter would be nice (and yes, I know the U-Wing exists, but that thing is a non-entity).

It would be very odd to have a product that is limited to one faction, but if those weights are accurate, a large ship or a two ship aces style box is getting to be a better bet.

Just please give it an aux arc instead of a turret slot.

I like this logic, though we do not know the arrangement specifics.

A FLGS owner here wouldn't say what "it" was - context clues told me it was one product.

This was to an X-Wing crowd.. but I couldn't get a read on him at all. But if it is a new game, like a deck builder, FFG is full throttle on new stuff. They just announced another board game today..

Because what you're quoting refers to the entirety of Force Friday not FFGs participation in it.

Everyone that makes Star Wars stuff will be debuting new products on Friday to promote the new movie. FFG certainly isn't the only one that make SW related stuff. Did you think Force Friday is just FFG?

You can look at FFGs own announcement in which they say they are putting out one thing for the event. You can look at what store owners have been asked to order. It's one thing.

Most store owners I've talked to, or seen comment, would be very happy for it to be X-wing or Destiny related as both those products will be easily sold whether they do big trade in those lines or not. A new game that no one knows anothing about would not have the demand either of those 2 lines would.

You're saying it can't be X-wing because not every store carries X-wing, but not every store carries random deck builders or whatever other small games it could be. That statement works for any line.

Stores bought it in cases of six. Maybe they are pulling a fast one and it's 2-3-6 different products packed with 3-2-1 copies of each product in a single case? Maybe the average MSRP is $30 so some products could be at different price ranges?

The manager at my local store and I were talking and he bought 3 cases to get free shipping with NO idea what it is. He's hoping it's nothing Imperial Assault or Armada since those sell like crap at his store (the X-Wing stuff is consistantly raided short of the Mist Hunter. There's literally a layer of dust on those minis).
