Thoughts on errata of "control" pilot abilities

By wurms, in X-Wing

So pilot abilities that are about control/token denial like Carnor Jax and Old Teroch become more useless as time goes on as more and more new tokens/abilities are introduced to the game that makes these ships less usable. Im wondering if an errata for these types of pilots needs to constantly happen as more tokens get introduced. This isnt something that even needs to be playtested because their abilities are in place and the essence of their abilities dont really change, just tokens that they can remove/deny. It can be a quick FAQ entry for each new wave that gets introduced to keep the old, new.

Carnor Jax prevents focus and evade actions/tokens at range 1. He was created before Expertise, Reinforce and the soon to come jam and reload actions/tokens. Jax's ability, once really really strong is diluted with every new wave released. Should he be errata'd to prevent reinforce and new defensive actions at range1? He would suddenly become a valuable asset to imperials vs FSR type of lists.

Old Teroch - he can drop focus and evade tokens, but should he drop reinforce and other defensive tokens as well? There is no counter to reinforce at the moment, and an ability/upgrade that only counters reinforce will never get used because only 1 ship uses the ability. Also, should he just drop all focus and evade tokens DURING combat phase. This prevents passing of tokens like Lowhrick passing an evade, Dash bring a rey focus, etc.

Wes Janson - he drops focus, evade, or blue target locks from enemy ships. An errata to drop reinforce and new tokens should probably happen, no? I would think if he was designed for wave XII, these would be added.

Palob - should he be able to steal reinforce and other defensive tokens that were created after his time? Again, a pilot ability that only takes reinforce will be useless.

This is not an anti-reinforce thread, its just that is the new defensive token that is really powerful without any counter whatsoever. I know FFG doesn't give two sh**s about old abilities. But I just think if these pilots were made today, the reinforce token would have been applied, as maybe other future tokens as well. Thoughts? Or just say "Meh, who cares?"

Wonder if Jax would be any good if he was changed to R1-2 in arc rather than just a circular R1

Part of his issue atm is the in-yo-face arc dodging is pretty bad atm, especially at PS8. It puts him in such grave danger to use his ability. Heck half the time he has to stare at his opponent R1 so while unfocused its still a R1 shot to the face. Ive lost count how many times ive gotten lucky when someone sent jax right in my face and i just 1shotted him w/o the mods lol

Agreed that there's room for this.

And in before people start accosting you for these suggestion for Jax. Not every thing you're saying has to be in the errata - just an update, in general amiright? Because yes, shutting down every token ever would be too much. Agreed? Agreed.

Reinforce has the exact same counters as evade minus things that counter evade tokens specifically (Jax, terry, homing missiles)

Autodamage, autoblaster and all forms of action denial shut it down just the same

Do agree though with the thread's premise. **** like expertise even makes Jam kinda weirdly pointless (stops dengars k4 though) and would be nice if Jax just denied focus conversion and added evade results so he's just more useful overall

Jax/homers doesnt affect reinforce. Its not an evade token, its adding an evade result in the same manner but its not an evade token and those abilities specifically call out the token not the added evade.
If they said "The defender cannot add evade results" it would counter quite a large array of things. Which i'd be fine with homers getting that since now theyre overcosted with cruise/harpoons around, they were pretty much only taken for the no TL spending aspect.
