This last weekend I went to a 28-person store champs in Denver, CO at Wizard's Chest. I *had* to fly an interceptor seeing as Luke Carrington just finished one for me! I was also almost done with an Oicunn decimator... So off we go with this list:
RAC - VI/EU/Palp/Kylo/Dauntless (dauntless felt very oicunn like)
Fel - RGT/PTL/Targeting Computer/AT
98 points *should* give me the bid. I also brought the 3 biggest rocks. I'm fairly confident flying a decimator through rocks. I had another version of this list with Thermal detonators on RAC, and Carnor instead of Fel. I think either would have done the same thing for me, but I should have given up the Dauntless title to put a bomb on the decimator. I very rarely bumped the deci and still needed an action. That would have sealed the victory in my game vs fengaraldra.
Game 1: Biggs/Arc/Wookie - Vance
Game 1 I setup diagonally across to try and lure Vance into the rocks. I always deploy small-base arcdodgers at a slight angle to help the arc dodging capabilities. I lined up RAC down the left side and sent him forward as fast as I could. Fel danced around the right side of the rockfield trying to lure the forces in. Since Vance had R2D2 on Biggs, I was able to get the deci in behind (didn't mind Range 2+ from the rear of that arc) to murder-death-kill biggs. Vance swung around the rock in my lower right and Fel was able to arcdodge while killing. He K turned Biggs to get a single shot and a tokenless biggs outside the wookie's range died, followed closely by Norra who was wiping away the blinded pilots. Wookie went down from Fel as RAC ran for the far side of the system. 100-0
Game 2: PS8Poe/Rey - Brack
I setup kind of in the middle, that front falcon arc is a doozie. Fel started far around my far left corner but Brack turned the Falcon into the rockfield, so Fel ducked right and back in behind POE. RAC put on a couple key blinded pilots so the falcon only had one shot. His Poe bumped the falcon one turn and Fel was able to strip shields, next turn Poe was dead. 100-0 and 2-0
Game 3: Stridan/Butt-Crit (backdraft)/Kestal - Paul
I setup diagonal and drew through the rocks. There was one turn where Ion turret Kestal had a great range 2 shot on a tokened/stressed Fel... 2 hits, Fel rolled one evade and one evade token (remember Palp and AT are useless if you don't have dice to change!). A little TOO close. RAC came in next turn to R1 of Kestal and put some serious hurt on, killing him the next turn. Backdraft couldn't contend with Fel when I could choose to use palp on D first (VI Backdraft), then really putting the hurt on when Fel shot. But ****, that VI-Ion cannon Kestal is REALLY scary to autothruster'd arcdodgers! I played a little TOO close on that one, Fel should have never gotten within range 2. Easy cleanup when you have to arcdodgers and only stridan is left. I think Stridan got one shot the whole game. 100-0 and 3-0!
Game 4: Dengar/Fenn/Inaldra @97 - Terry
I was seriously sweating this list. Terry chose to take initiative but a couple turns in he realized RAC was 10, not 9, so maybe a huge mistake on his part. This game went to time and I just couldn't kill Fenn with multiple Range 1 palp enforced shots from both Fel and RAC. I did get Dengar to 1/2 and Inaldra was pretty toast. I blinded Dengar out of arc twice. Lost 64-40 and 3-1
Game 5: Biggs/Lowwrhick/Rex/PS3Wookie - Willy
Another game I was really sweating. I lured with Fel on my right side while RAC swings around the back. Fel took a hit and lucky-not-direct crit (stunned pilot, couldn't bump anymore or flaming death). So I turned Fel around and he chased. For something like 10 turns Willy couldn't damage Fel, and RAC was very slowly chipping away at the other ships. Willy thought he could get RAC fewer attack dice, missed a 4k into the back of Biggs, Biggs went too far, and Rex died to a range 1 RAC. Couple turns later I singled out Biggs as the wookies were still chasing Fel hard. He conceded his wookies when those were the only ones left. Arguably the worst of the worst game-experience wise, but we had a good time making spaceship noises and yelling at dice. 100-0 and 4-1, I was the top MOV 4-1 so easily made the cut to top 4.
the 4 lists that made top 4: Miranda/Nym, VI Cruise missles Vader/QD and pure sabacc, FSR2, myself
Top 4: Vs Tom and his VI imps
I setup to joust knowing the rule of 11 meant he'd never get the missles off. Not needing MOV anymore I could safely send in RAC to kill off Vader, hoping to bump QD, and let Fel deal with Pure Sabacc for the moment. It all went to **** when I nicked a rock with Fel, nicking the same rock the turn after. Fel really is the ultimate glass cannon! I also turned RAC towards the board edge thinking I could double bump vader and QD (with fel pinching it could have been awesome) and just missed the bump on both, leaving him only one move that might keep him on the board. Planning on losing RAC flying off the board I dialed in something crazy on Fel but QD capoitalized and made Fel pay with his life for rolling all blanks. I did manage to kill Pure Sabacc and put some serious hurt on Vader, but the couple of critical mistakes I made cost me the game. Had I gone straight forward I would have bumped QD, Vader would still be hurting, and had Fel actually made that corner Pure Sabacc would have been killed before he shot (he already had a damage on him and Fel would have been Range 1 with TL/F).
Tom went on to beat the Miranda/Nym player and I heard it was partially due to a connor net explosion that took one of QD's shields, leading to a range 1 shot behind right after a couple cruise missles. I don't feel so bad knowing I lost to the eventual winner ![]()
I'd still say that there's a place for Soontir Fel, I just have to get clever about that initiative bid! Blinded pilot wasn't a great experience for the other guys. I didn't even go crit searching in a couple games because none of them would have affected what I was doing or how I was flying. Blinded pilot is useless when you're arcdodging anyway. I was VERY surprised that this decimator could "arcdodge" like it did. Forcing bumps and dodging caught a LOT of people by surprise.
