Scum Only in Rebel ship pack?

By ramy, in X-Wing

Maul is simply Sith.. the Galactic Empire is only a twinkle in Darth Sidious' eye in Ep 1... After being cut in half and "left" for dead, Maul's not entirely Empire or even Sith friendly anymore..

Exactly. While he stuck with the Sith titles and traditions during the Clone Wars, by the time of Rebels, he had even rejected the title Darth. He was simply Maul.

True, but where as Vader had plans to kill Palp, he was still a part of the Empire. Maul created his own Shadow Collective in order to take on his master who abandoned him. In Rebels, he worked directly with the main cast against the Empire. Admittedly, he did betray them for his own purposes in the end, but that's still leaps and bounds more than he ever did for the Empire. This is why you have people thinking he is Ezra only and thinking that it fits.

FFG isn't trolling us. They are following canon in this case.

It's beyond that, the Empire were actively hunting Maul down, that one Inquisitor brother was after Maul on Malachor.

Possibly on Palpatine's orders.

I have to defer to your knowledge of Rebels/the comics. I do not watch/read.
But having seen him as a hired hand of the Sith in the Phantom Menace (lol) I want him to be an Imperial crew or pilot..

Yeah he HATES Palpatine and the Empire by the time he's in Clone Wars. And then even more when we see him in Rebels.

As a fan of the shows, this works fine for me.

I'm out of likes, but this is exactly right. Plus in that instance, he was looking for a weapon powerful enough to wipe out Palpatine's Empire.

And from a limited knowledge base, that's fine. But considering the entire canon, the Scum and Ezra only makes way more sense.

An even better point.

I tried watching Rebels from the start but found Ezra way too annoying. Then, they added Maul and Thrawn to the mix and I jumped onboard. Maul's character arc is really interesting in the animated shows, even if a bit far-fetched at times. They really gave his character depth and succeeded in making you feel sorry for him, at least me anyway. Mostly, I was rooting for him.

Watch Ezra be "eh" but Maul to wreck face on Scum ships.

It probably will break the jumpmaster (Dengar most likely) again. When the card is revealed we will all see the power of the combo and wonder wtf FFG was thinking.

Because Maul isn't imperial in the sources they're pulling him from (Namely Rebels)

Maul isn't Imperial in any sources even ones no longer canon. There is literally no source where he is anything but hostile to the Empire.

The only affiliation that makes sense for film-only Maul is the non-existent Sith affiliation. He was working actively against the Republic (the proto-Empire), and before there even was a Separatist movement. Making him Imperial only makes sense in the same way it would make sense to class Nute Gunray or Poggle the Lesser as Imperial. All of the above served the FUTURE Emperor. Likewise, though, Obi-Wan served on Star Destroyers. Qui-Gon was the student of Count Dooku. I don't think that we can look at relations from the past to derive what should or should not be in the present.

In the Clone Wars, Maul should clearly be Scum affiliated. He spent a short time ruling those Mandalorians who have given us some really cool Scum ships. As the Galactic Civil War begins, he is pretty much out for his own self-interest, hence still mainly Scum. However, he does take an interest in Ezra, going so far as to consider Ezra as his apprentice on a few occasions. (Referring Ezra as "our apprentice" when talking to Ezra's Jedi teacher, Kanan, was a great way to try to provoke the Jedi.)

All of that in consideration, Scum Only with an exception to let him serve as crew alongside Ezra would make perfect sense.

Assuming it's a Zuckuss for attack dice, which does seem to be a reasonable interpretation of what we can see, K4 is probably better unless he's significantly cheaper.

Looks like some sort of reroll when attacking while stressed, which goes well with Ezra's defensive stressed ability in the Attack Shuttle. There is something else in there as well I can't make out. The new shuttle also appears to follow the theme that Ezra's ability is while stressed.

Thematically, I like it, as it reflects Maul pushing Ezra towards embracing the Dark Side as a source of power when under duress. Could be cool.

Also could be problematic when other Scum ships since we don't really need more ways for Scum to ignore stress, but they already have Dengar (crew) and K4 Security Droid so probably not a big deal there.
