Hrm...must say, that's an interesting looking ship.

But...that ventral fin. I can't quite get my head around - how is it going to land?

:o

Based on conversations I have heard about a similar ship in this predicament (the citadel-class light cruser), the offending fin either folds to one side or it less lands and more docks.

Odd how landspeeders don't ever need skids and speederbikes don't have a kickstand, but flying starships MUST have landing gear.

I don't think it was ever really shown, but I would agree, they probably fold up like the theta class shuttle fins do.

I believe the landing gear have maglocks for use in docking bays in zero gravity.

But take that with a pinch of star wars physics.

For me, it's not even about the landing gear - it's about how anyone gets on or off that ship! Do they make everyone use ladders? Firemen poles? Do they take up half the internal space with a folding ramp? I mean, that ventral fin is apparently as long from the bottom of the hull to the tip of the fin as the entire gunship is wide!

Maybe they just have a tractor beam operator that uses a ladder to get in and out, and then tractor beams the rest of the crew?

I'm so curious, now...

From what pictures I have seen over the years, its similar to the Episode 3 V-Wing Starfighter, the Fins rotate instead of being Verticle, they turn horizontal, as far as entering and exiting, there should be a ladder built in one the right front "wing", and of course is then outfitted with standard starship landing gear skids.

Hummmm, personally I have never liked this ship just because I think it just looks a bit rubbish.

Can't support this. The GUNBOAT has answered my dreams already.

Maybe there is a special landing pad with a slot down the middle, and the lower fin slides in like a tab.

While I will take any new ship for the game, I would far prefer the Sentinel class shuttle over the YE4 space scraper.

And, I like the Skipray exactly because it doesn't look like a variant of the Stock Imperial Shuttle series. In the exact same way I'm bored with TIEs.

Not sayin' I don't want to see the TIE Avenger in the game, just sayin' the StarWing is a nice break.

Yeah, that ventral fin is stupid.

Yeah. The Citadel has it way worse.

...I didn't say anything about Landing Gears...just how practical would a design like that be?

Maybe this vessel is only ever used in space? Not meant for planetary use?

^ Exactly! How do the occupants deploy...? Maybe the occupants rope down like how it's done with Blackhawks?

...man...I don't even know what that image is supposed to be of...my mind can't handle it. :( :( :(

Oi, SabineKey, even if the ventral fin folds...where would it fold towards?

It'd still stick out to either side of the ship? I really can't understand the design. :(

So, the best I can figure is that the two side wings rotate so they are parallel with the main body. Then the ventral fin folds either way, perhaps acting as part of the landing gear.

Yeah, the explainations I can think up aren't great, but there is some hope someone pointed out in this ship from the game The Old Republic.

That bottom engine folds up into the ship. Maybe something like that could work?

This attempt to make the godawful Blastboat into the next Gunboat is appalling.

FTFY.

And the desire for the gunboat was pure and desired by all?

...It takes a special kind of person to take a moment out of his day just to come tell other people that he hopes their little Star Wars dream doesn't come true.

I say "YES" to Skipray Gunboat

To be honest, I think the Gunboat is just a armed variation of the Imperial Shuttle or T-16 Skyhopper, to me, its not engaging or 100% Unique in its appearance. That said, At least it isnt yet ONE more Tie Fighter, but Blastboat, despite how ever you may feel about its looks, is completely UNIQUE in its looks.

So's an Ewok glider.

Starships are much larger than speeders and probably need more stability than a speeder that bobs up and down when people are climbing on. Ships also come with landing claws, docking ports and such. Perhaps speeders do as well, like an anchor, but we always see speeders hovering, even in the prequels. Hovering must not use a lot of power, or any, since there's no acceleration.

But an ewok glider doesn't fill a hole in the Imperial fleet.

What, flying cannibals?

Whoops! Forgot the "n't" on "does". Curse early morning grogginess! Fixed.

Though, to be fair, flying cannibles is an underrepresented demographic in the Imperial Navy.

I guess the Skipray can be the Imperial 'Wookiee gunship', ugly as crap but effective large base ship with crew and different enough from other large bases to be cool.

Still would prefer a space worthy LAAT or DX-9.

Are you seriously going to call the streamlined Skipray ugly and then advocate for the DX-9, which looks like an underpixelated engine block in space???!!!
