Intensity-wing

By tsondaboy, in X-Wing

My take in theorizing about a squad that has potential to perform great given the recent upgrade cards.
As the name suggest its 4 A-wing with intensity and deadeye.

Green Squadron Pilot + Crack Shot + Proton Rockets + Intensity + Guidance Chips
Green Squadron Pilot + Crack Shot + Proton Rockets + Intensity + Guidance Chips
Green Squadron Pilot + Deadeye + Cruise Missiles + Intensity + Guidance Chips
Green Squadron Pilot + Deadeye + Cruise Missiles + Intensity + Guidance Chips

Setup with the procket wings to take the lead and cruise wings in the back.
Reveal a 5 speed maneuver and boost to adjust bearing and range a bit further and take a focus token from intensity.
In the current 2 ship meta, wait for what comes in front of you and see it melt. :D

Deadeye should be Crack Shot on the first Green, cause Prockets only need a focus token to get off

Quick note: Prockets have Deadeye built in, those should switch to Crackshot (or another 1pt). Definitely some serious punishment if your target can't reposition out of the trap.

Also, this is definitely a squad list topic ;)

That is correct! Modified as noted.

So not too much for 36? :)

Sorry I fixed that mistake. I ve used him in the past like that with VI instead. Its better if he moves last. ;)

If you want to go wild put expertise on him!

Should be "IntensAty-Wing"

Looks interesting. I've been wondering about mixing and matching Proton Rockets and Cruise Missiles to protect the range 1 'blind spot' (in my case considering 6 Z-95s rather than 4 more individually capable A-wings).

The ability to move 'speed 7' and still 'arm' the cruise missiles gives you some nasty options; someone who doesn't register just how far you can go may wander into missile range.

Your main weaknesses, if there are any, are that this is a squad of low PS A-wings whose plan is "fly in a fast, straight line at the enemy" - you can afford to lose one of them before they fire and still deliver a bruising, but it'll hurt if you lose two (or at least lose shots from two), and that you'll inevitably be setting up before your opponent, who is unlikely to give you a clean 'strafing run' launch if they can afford to (although I suspect intensity will help a lot there, more to allow you to do a speed 4 straight and then slew your nose around to fire than actually to cover distance).

A big problem with using deadeye to 'cheat' target lock requirements is the gunner/hotshot co-pilot combination on something with high pilot skill. Hotshot Copilot Chiraneau splitting fire can theoretically pin down two ship's missiles indefinitely.

I ve been practicing this exact move the past few weeks! Yes, the boost is there to change your bearing after moving 4-5 straight rather than covering extra distance. Experience also says that you need blockers to force higher PS skill to chose either to stay out of r1 or risk bumping. Nothing better in that case than prockets A-wings.

Team one of each in two groups and have them approach from slightly different paths converging towards the same target. It works wanders!

Huzzah!

An X-wing player who's writing a list then developing logical strategies for using it, rather than expecting the list-writing to win the game for him!

What the [censored] is someone like you doing on the internet?

On a more serious note, sounds good. Having the cruise missiles pair with proton rockets sounds like it should work well, and more importantly, that gives you a plan to approach without offering a simple (and probably fatal) joust.

I am flying Imperial cruise missile builds chew bubblegum and kick A***
....and I am all out of bubblegum....

This is my fav squad I used last weekend.

"Whisper" + Intensity + Advanced Sensors + Gunner + Advanced Cloaking Device
Baron of the Empire + Push the Limit+ Cruise Missiles + Guidance Chips + V1
Baron of the Empire + Push the Limit+ Cruise Missiles + Guidance Chips + V1

Block them with decloack, Sensors barrel roll (intensity focus), turn 1 hard. Shoot with Whisper (Whisper focus, flip intensity back up), shoot missiles and watch them cry the empire is OP!:D

Seriously now though, Whisper + intensity is great but cannot stand up against Dengar or anything above her PS7.
She is fun to play in casual days, but unless she has VI its too risky to bring her in competitive games.
Too bad because she is my favorite Imperial pilot and has won me local tournaments pre Pal-nerf.

Even VI whisper is dead. VI Nym eats her alive! :D

Ships that have a forward firing ark are not a problem if you know how to fly phantoms even at higher PS than her. Turreted ships are though.
