Robotech Conversion

By Jedifish, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Brewing a mini campaign for Robotech using this system. Would allow pcs to choose from pilot focused specializations. Looking for ideas to stat Veritechs, cyclones, zentradi and invids. Also I have played the Palladium Robotech game many times and own all the books, however I love this system and want to give it a crack. Also welcoming other ideas for it :)

1st of all Palladium uses 2 different damage systems, Standard and Mega-damage, for both Robotech and Rifts, which would be difficult to simulate with this system. Although the stats for some of the different Star Destroyers may make decent Zentradi dreadnought or destroyer. Invid or micronized Zentradi would be easy enough to stat as species, micronized Zendradi are pretty much human, I'm not sure a full size Zentradi could ever be properly made using this system.

As for Cyclones and Veritechs, the Cylcones would probably be similar to your average speeder bike and Veritechs could be the different fighters.

I would also allow your players to choose more than just pilot focused specializations.

Actually it is not. given that there are 2 damage scales in this system not hard at all. Veritechs would all have armor and would have breach weapons.

There were many issues but one of my biggest issue with Palladium's system was the "Mega" Damage Capacity (MDC) vs the Standard Damage Capacity (SDC) damage differential. The range of damage was WAY too extreme.

The FFG system already has a Deca-damage differential built in between vehicles and 'narrative' fights. But the damage does scale better so the cross over it's quite as bad.

As for the vehicle and weapons stats, that may require a complete re-write as equipment is converted over for the FFG system. As I recall, many of the stats were horribly unbalanced and broken. :o

On the plus side, all of the Force talents go away for Robotech so that bit will be easy . . .

It sounds like an interesting mental exercise at the very least.

Not exactly what the OP is asking, but I was trying to convert SWRPG to a mecha game and couldn't make it work, so I went hunting for another narrative-focused* mecha game.

Battle Century G and ChromeStrike are my top two contenders.

*which means every mecha game made prior to the new millennium is right out, not that there aren't a lot of dog-ears in my personal copy of GURPS Mecha...

I think a Robotech conversion would be fairly easy, and would love to work on it. You might want to wait for Genesys to come out though, they sound like it may have a mecha game in the works already.
