Question about balancing for competitive play

By mardukch, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Hi guys,

Long time LCGs player here. I watched a ton of GenCon coverage and I'm stoked about L5R.

In the past, FFG has balanced competitive play for their games through either bans, erratas, restricted lists or new releases.

What is FFG planning for L5R in case a card or deck becomes problematic for competitive play?

The answer to that question is important to me. I’m a competitive player and whether I purchase the game or not depends a lot on FFG’s plans for competitive play.

Depends on the game. I come from a netrunner background so most likely they could implement influemce penalties on cards like the MWL (for example, a broke-*** card could cost influence even if it is in-faction). ANR has no bans and few errata.

Depends on the problem card or cards.

If it is an out of faction interaction they could remove the Influence from a card so you cannot include it in another deck, like the Way of Cards.

If it is an in Clan interaction, they could put them on a Restricted List so you would not be able to include them at all in a deck together. These are good for cards that separetely are fine, but when combined together become super busted.
