GenCon panel?

By Bojanglez, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've been wondering the same thing. Anyone?

I'm curious as well. Sadly, despite what it says, it probably doesn't have anything to do with Star Wars RPG. If it does, it probably would have to do with the 30th Anniversary. Don't get me wrong, I love the old version, but I'd like to hear something about this game. What are some future goals for the system? Any hints as to what's to come? Anything we should watch out for? Anything at all? With Starfinder and D&D Beyond being released, something new here would be cool. Oh wait, yet another Star Wars miniature game that doesn't have anything to do with this game. That's news. :-/

There are a couple YouTube recordings of the event. I only watched a few fragments, but I think they mostly focused on the content they've announced recently, Fallout, Civilization, Genesys, Legacy of Dragonholt, Legion, etc.

Tracking down a recording shouldn't be hard, there's a link in this thread.

You are thinking of the In-Flight Report - FFG's big annual presentation on new products and the state of the company. That gets tons of coverage, live -streamed, recorded, etc. That happened on Friday.

There was a much smaller discussion specifically about Star Wars role-playing. I think it was on Saturday. This is what we want info about.

I saw a few pictures on Facebook but I lost track of the post and and I don't know anything about the content. I don't even remember what group it was posted in.

But, this :)

Here's Sterling Hershey's blog post about the panel. Probably doesn't cover everything, but I don't think anything big was announced.

I was there. Nothing major was announced for the RPG unless you consider a limited reprint of the 1st edition of the WEG D6 core rules major. I wouldn't expect anything major as the course for the RPG line has been pretty well charted.

Well charted but currently way off course.

Probably that a number of announced books (most notably Ghosts of Dathomir) have yet to hit shelves, be they stuck in "On The Boat" or "In Development," with the last major product release being Disciples of Harmony.

Generally speaking, Ghost of Dathomir should have been at GenCon at the very least, given it went on the boat back in early March, and Fully Operational has been "In Development" since late March with no further updates.

It's not as bad as the long dry spell that WotC had with Saga Edition (core book released in May/June, first sourcebook hit shelves in December, all due to the first actual planned sourcebook being delayed since it was a tie-in to The Force Unleashed video game, which itself got delayed because of LucasArts), but the prospects of getting a lot of new Star Wars product before the end of the year aren't exactly looking rosy.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the efforts of FFG's in-house RPG department has been focused on Genesys and making sure it's ready for its Q42017 release as opposed to Star Wars.

Seems the prodigal son was relegated to lame duck

Well they answered the question about why Ghosts is not out yet. It was diverted. Someone suggested that shipping company going belly up as a possibility as a lot of people lost shipments then. This neccessitated reprinting a bunch of stuff with likely totally wrecked their pipeline flow. I dont see that as off course so much as things out of their control happening.

I just wish that finding this stuff out wasn't so hard. Getting release info from FFG is like pulling teeth. I've had a CSI order held up for months because it contains Ghosts of Dathomir. It's not like this has slipped by a week or two, it's been "on the boat" for over five months. Can't they make a real announcement?

I always consider the possibility of legal complications behind the scenes putting a gag order on directly saying what the problem is.

Telling a customer through customer support that a shipment got "redirected" and they had to reprint allows for plausible deniability. Connecting the defunct shipping company is deductive reasoning on our part, but didn't come from an official source.

It was Hanjin's collapse that did it I'm sure.

Quote

Hanjin Shipping's dissolution was the largest and most significant bankruptcy in the container transport industry[11] and it caused worldwide disruption in shipping as cargo ships were left stuck at ports and canals waiting for cash payments.[4] Hanjin's bankruptcy created a massive ripple effect. Other businesses that rely on physical products found themselves without the expected revenue from inventory that became stuck at sea. Hanjin's abrupt cave-in occurred at an especially inconvenient time for retailers furnishing their inventories with imported items in preparation for a seasonal uptick in Thanksgiving, Christmas, Black Friday, and New Years sales. Although large companies such as Nike were affected, the repercussions were more prominent on smaller companies.[12]

But great pirates know that sunken ships are lost opportunities.
