More Factions?

There has to be more than 2 factions or the game fizzles out. Mercs could have less "leader" like figures and more "hired gun" like characters. DV is 200pts, Leia is 50pt and Luke is 160pts, Hondo could be 25-30 and have a minor influence and the rest of the army be filled out with Weequays, sand skiff flyers (60+ pts with and array of weapon upgrades and light armor) and a hired character like IG 88, Bossk or Zuckuss.

Bounty hunters are not real commanders. They more likely fit to special forces or commander slot but cant issue order to other unit.

IMO

Leia is 90 pts. I’m really hoping they don’t dip any lower than 50 pts for commanders. I just feel like named characters leading armies should be able to handle a squad of stormtroopers without issue. I do really like the idea of a scum faction though. Stuff like:

Hondo & Weequay pirates

Grakkus & enslaved gladiators

Jabba & Nikto gangsters

My squinty eyes don't work so well. Veers must be 80-90 as well then. I thought since the merc faction would have more character like figures (Boba Fett, Bossk, IG would be the equivalent of a squad ~ able to do/take as much damage) but have less Leadership, command influence as a General or Jedi would so their commanders would be less points and have less of an effect to balance, but would have less troopers and more bounty hunter hero types.

I just hope they don't go for racist army building, a squad of rodians, a squad of twi-lek etc.

How am I supposed to field a gungan army with that kind of attitude?!

I mean, technically, any Rebel player could field a squad with all Duro if they bought enough of the rebel squad packs.

@mulletcheese “Racist army building”?

That's when race = job. You should be able to field squads of spies, close combat specialists and cannon fodder... Not squads of bothans, wookies and gungans.

I'm just not a fan of race based army building.

Technically, the Squad leader is supposed to be the specified model for all units, so casual games only (likely).

Skirmishes with the Empire shutting down a pirate operation isn't unreasonable...

Or Crimelords double-crossing Rebels over deals..

Endless opportunities.

Droid Uprising!

Would be neat to have some unbound units, like bounty hunters that either side can hire, or some that only certain factions can get, like trandoshans working for either the empire or scum and not the rebels, or twi'lek guerillas doing the opposite.

I would love to see "unaligned" models that could be part of either faction; mercenaries, bounty hunters, rogues, and assorted specialists.

In lieu of full-on additional factions, I would like to see "themes" within the existing factions. Not just cosmetic themes but ones with actual play-style and mechanical differences.

Erm what about Clone Troopers and Battle Droids...

Its different timeline. Imagine army of clones commanded by Anakin and empire with Vader... :)

V - "Anakin, I'm you from the future."

A - "Noooooooo!!!" ;P

But it would add two interesting factions.

You can head swap the Duros head on to the other bodies. I’m planning on doing this and having two Duros with him.

How about the Corporate Sector Authority (CSA) as a possible third faction? The CSA was the Banking Union/Separatist counterpart during the Empire era. Even some of the members of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) later formed part of the CSA. The CSA even had its own Navy including Victory class Star Destroyers, Lukerhulk Class Carriers, Dreadnoughts, and various models of frigates and corvettes. The CSA had an uneasy truce with the empire but they ran their own slice of the galaxy as they saw fit. The CSA has enough background to be a reliable third faction but not so well established that FFG can't further develop their own ideas to implement on the tabletop.

Fair enough. I'm not a huge fan of sawing heads off of models and then fiddling with them until I can get the angle to something reasonable personally, but more power to you! :)
