3 Alternate Ending Cards

Hooray!

If i look at the Highland board, the first row of spaces has grass/hills on it. I like that gran_risa.gif

The second row has a lot of rocks.

And the third row has ice on it ! gran_risa.gif

PS: i can see the snow bridge too !

I can also see that the thundercrest is strength 4....

And there is a card with the title:...: Pits of the.. ?

I like the red color from the Relic cards

The Highland card looks also nicegran_risa.gif

I thought that card said "Eyes of the..." Looks like it might be a spell. Not sure.

I think you are right.happy.gif

That seems more logical.

I think that it is a adventure card...( but i am not sure..)

Lol, it feels like we're trying to peek at presents on Christmas Eve!!

I hope that one of the three endings is the pandora's box card gran_risa.gif

My hopes for the endings:

  1. Another scenario, like the Quest variant.
  2. Something dangerous. Right now the Ice Queen is the only ending that might make you wish you'd stayed on the main board. We need more risk - especially if you play with the online freebies, which are both good to draw.
  3. Another alternate command spell ending. Something more powerful than Crown Of Command, but less powerful than Crown & Sceptre. Maybe Crown & Throne? I like the idea of variant command spell endings - that way we can have a large number of possible endings, but still a high probability of an ending which is (more or less) standard. A printed Crown Of Command would be almost just a good as a new variant to me.

On this note, I'd also like a printed version of Danse Macabre. But I don't imagine to see it in The Highlands Expansion. Perhaps they could print a second edition of The Reaper Expansion and include the ending. I'd by a whole new set just for that ending, and I bet I'm not alone!

How does Pandora's Box work?

I hope that the normal crown ending and Danse Macabre is included in the Highlands, but new endings are also welcome for me.

Pandora's Box

The Crown of Command has been replaced by a large magic chest. If you are alone, you may open the chest and use its power to defeat your rivals. Each turn the chest will give you Spells and Adventure cards to attack your opponents. Roll one die for the number of Spells you pick up each turn and one die for the number of Adventure cards you pick up each turn.

You must use these on the turn that you collect them. They may be used against any of the other players. You win the game when all of your opponents have been killed.

This is the Pandora's box text from 2th edition

I have made a topic earlier to discuss about the pandora's box here

Thanks for the list. Second edition Cyclops is a Stranger, not an Enemy. He requires you to roll a die with the following results:

1-2: lose a follower at random

3-4 lose a (magic) object at random

5-6 he ignores you

The Cyclops then goes to the discard pile.

Hi Archdruid,

Thanks for this information.

It seems i made a mistake with it.

It would be cooler if the cyclops could remain on his space or that he walks around the board ( like carnival)

Here is the list again..

Adventure cards:

Eyrie Vanguard

Relics cards:

Dreadwing, Winlord amulet.

Highland cards:

Events:

Tumbling Boulder. Eyes of the??

Enemies:

Harpy, Thundercrest, Storm Wing, Mountain dragon, Roc

Strangers:

Treasure Hunter, Cyclops

Magic objects:

Flight Potion?

Places:

Gong of War

Spell cards:

Simulacrum?

I am thinking about the Cyclops now, but should not it be a adventure card?

I have listed it as a stranger for the Highland, but the Cyclops is originally for the mainboard (2th E)

I guess when cards for the Highland deck were being created, Cyclops stood out as one of the few remaining 2nd Edition Expansion cards not yet reprinted; Cyclops seems a great flavour-fit for the Highland theme. I hope he is slightly modified though - the existence of Fate rather weakens him.

A few other reprinted cards have switched between boards, including Highland's Gong of War, which I expect to be a reprint of 2nd Edition Dungeon's Gong. Similarly, I expect 2nd Edition Judge (another Stranger) to be reprinted with the expected City expansion, for flavour reasons.

It is possible that the cyclops is also for the mainboard.

I keep my fingers crossed..

i expect that we also see a volcano..

Yeah, i think that some retro cards will show up in the City expansion. Makes more sense..

I would arrange it this way..

City: Taxation,Halloween, Judge, secret door, man- at- arms, Archer, Market day for trading

Highlands: Volcano, ,Cyclops, , Harpy,

The others should be released for the mainboard..

Valkyrie preview is up:

www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp

Finally a character that isn't insanely above the normal characters (talking base and Reaper ones). Though can't see her Follower-saving ability coming into play that often, if at all.

we see finally the valkyrie preview gran_risa.gif

so she can get a +1 to the attack score. very handy..

from what i understand from the second ability.., she can never lose a life in the graveyard, and she can pray there as she is of evil alignment..?

the third ability..: she can resurrect followers from herself and from opponents??

It's so rare that followers are getting killed...sad.gif

There is a cyclops in the Highland expansion, and he eat followers..

So the Valkyrie can resurrect those followerslengua.gif

it should also work with the vampire tower...?

As I remember the 3th.edition mountain, it was a very dangerous place for followers, so maybe the Valkyries follower ability will come in handy.

cheers

Agreed, though it's all about the combinations. The followers that can "fight in your place" are usually ST3 ish (Guard Dog, etc...) single shot "avoid THIS" kind of follower. However, now, this means if she gets one, barring being ganged up on and using it unwisely, she can permanently use the follower and send it off to a temporary death and avoid the worst enemies, say, Basilisk or a badly timed ST 7+ dragon or... another player.

Of course, now, will come all the discussions about "what does killed mean?". Can you prevent the Hieromartyr from leaving? St. Josephine? A werewolf-ed follower? A follower killed by the Reaper? Obviously, some will be clear. The Hag says "They leave", but, I see a potential of unclear stuff about that power. And, there's the feast or famine thing going on re: great vs useless power based on the combo. We'll have to be VERY precise of Follower leave vs killed. Even so, some of them will still be tough to call. Do you "die" when you "ascend" (which I think is what happens to St. Josephine)? Or does the word have to be killed (vs slain, vs discarded, vs Vampire, vs Chasm).

Still, it's cool for me because it's different. I'd prefer a trophy stealing power myself. She guards the gate to the afterlife, after all. But that might have been too powerful.

Hieromartyr + valkyrie resurrection means that she can never lose a life in battle or psychic combat..

Nice combogran_risa.gif

The Faithful Hound, and Champion can also be resurrected. or maybe mercenary too..

You can let them fight for you, and if you die, they are resurrected again..

You don't have to worry abou losing followers in the chasm or vampire castle?..

There is also a snow bridge where you can lose followers, but the Valkyrie can easily resurrect them..gran_risa.gif

Lots of very good questions, THR!

"Leave" seems clear enough, since there's no implication or inference of death. "Slain" is same as "killed," but standard meaning has not always been adherred to in past rulings. "Ascension" does not always include a death. In many cultural ideologies, ascension is the bypassing of the death process and direct translation from life into afterlife. So that one's up in the air... unless something specifically has to die in order to ascend. This will be an interesting call to see whether the option to resurrect overrides call of a higher power.

I think you've uncover another snarled ball of string to be unraveled. And whether or not terms are used literally is obviously the key.

Can the Valkyrie use her ability when other player's followers die? Or just her own? It just says "a follower."
