Dreadnought question

By Formynder4, in Star Wars: Armada

For those of you who really want dreadnoughts and keep advocating for them... Why? The Vics get enough complaints, but what's the appeal of a slower less-armed ship?

And yes, I'm well aware of Katana fleet, but I just don't see how they would fit in balance wise. The only reason the Rebs wanted Katana fleet in the first place was their lack of ships in general so that any ship would be useful.

Nostalgic value and thematic reasons. I don't really like the design that much, yet I love the Assault Frigate mk2 cause it was in Empire at War and I played the crap outta that.

Because even at speed 2, if it lacks the victorys main battery edge and also lacks the squadron c&c of the victory, it would be a medium that is significantly cheaper than a Vic or AF, which leads to other sorts of gameplay

Game needs more slow ships, and medium ships.

It could be a slow, but heavy-punching ship that needs a great player to make work. We need more tricky ships. Plus this could be the first dual-faction ship as it was used by the Empire and the Rebels as well. A Dreadnought also could be a cheaper AFMK2 with versatile equipment for different roles, but for a lower price.

Well yes, it's mostly pure nostalgia, but like others have said... another medium base ship (especially if its dual faction) would be wonderful. There are -also very few "slow" ships in the game, but if they make it slow and 3 command, they can give it alot of fire power and leave it a cheap ship. 3 vics isnt enough to defend the whole board but 6 dreadnoughts with 2 red and 2(or3) blue out a broadside is plenty to cover the whole board.

Frankly its not great for a ton of objectives but having two little strongholds for 55 pts each...that would be magnificent.

Arquitens are 54 at the cheapest. Still holding out for the Vindicator cruiser. Good mid 60 platform with plenty of red and blue dice.

I'd like to see the Dreadnought, if only to see how FFG modify the stats into the Assault Frigate Mk.1.

Less hull? Lower command? Less firepower?

In case it's not obvious, I love the look and fluff of the AF Mk1.

Agree, I don't what it is about the mk1 but I love the way they look

Im sooo close to buying one of Mel's so I can run it in place of the mk2

Do it! So nice! :D

I always thought the Dreadnought should have strong broadsides, strong hull, weaker shields and slower, while the AF-M1 should have a strong forward battery, weaker hull, stronger shields, and faster.

This way, the Dreadnought compliments the Victory, and the AF-M1 compliments the AF-M2

indeed but i don't think slow/medium will have any impact.

at this point the process of any new ships is the following:

"

step 1: grace period as people try the ship and find where it is good at.

step 2: reminded that the game has been figured out, 1-2 main ships plus activation padding ships. preferably fast enough to dodge out of fire arcs .

step 3: people ask "does the ship fit in the 1-2 main ships plus activation padding list type?"

step 4: if it does, it gets played. if it doesn't, it doesn't get played.

so, slow/medium ships wont get played, wont really enter the meta; too slow to be the "one single main gunship" in a fleet. unless they are carriers.

in order to find more variety, we need some change that creates other types of list archetypes. something that can compete with the "1-2 main ships plus activation padding". idk how.

By providing a cheaper framework of points for a medium base, that allows you to extend the "1-2 main ships" to "3-4 main ships" is one.

I got 4th place in a 16 person SC with 2 Victory SDs and 2 Gozantis and some squads. And they were't carriers. Didn't even have Jerry. I had Konstantine.

Echoing the replies of earlier posters - yes, nostalgia. Remember, FFG said that they wanted to give us the means to create our own Star Wars stories.

Keep believing guys, the Gunboat Campaign on the X-Wing forum took over 3 years...and it has accomplished it's goal!

Gunboats for everyone!!!!! :D :D :D
