Do Gate&Monster Trophies transfer when you Retire?
Do Gate&Monster Trophies transfer when you Retire?
we've always played no, since they can't be traded they can't be rolled over either
actually now that I think about it when we play, nothing rolls over if you're devoured, you just pull a new card and make a whole new character.
From Dunwich Horror rulebook, page 6. Retiring Investigators:
".... The player simply skips his turn, announces that the investigator is retiring, and draws a new ivestigator as though his old investigator had been devoured."
The following is quoted from the Arkham Horror rulebook, page 17, with bold italics added for emphasis:
"In rare cases, investigators may be devoured. The player immidiately discards all of his cards (except unspent trophies) and shuffles his investigator sheet in with the unused investigator sheets."
It seems clear to me that trophies transfer over from retired investigators to the new ones that replace them.

hmm, that kinda takes the teeth out of getting eaten

Yeah... I guess. I was just hoping that there was an explicit affirmation of it somewhere. I'll keep going with that though ;')

No. If you are unexpectedly devoured, you still lose your clues and a fully equipped character. It does however encourage the use of deliberate devourings as a tactic (further— I elaborated on this in the other thread).
on a similar tactical note, this situation comes up quite a bit and I figure it's legal but somewhat weird
a few of my players will have a fighter, like McGlen, holding either his trusty thompson or something equally beastly (sword of glory, etc)
that's his only item, and he's got no clue tokens or retainers
the player will walk out of the hospital or asylum, straight into combat on a tile with multiple monsters, then pass out just to reawaken back in a safe zone and do it again on his next movement.
without encounters, using just combat you can't really lose both your sanity and stamina at the same exact time, so getting devoured isn't likely and with just the one item there's no item loss... is there anything wrong with this (mechanically I mean)?

Um... Honestly, I'm not sure. I've thought about this before, and it seems legal to me. It also seems wrong. So, I don't know ;') I usually just won't tell other people I'm playing with about this potential exploit, and I won't take advantage of it (unlike a couple other exploits that I know are *definitely* legal).
If all you have left is one item, then you're probably screwed and/or useless to the rest of the team anyway unless the item's fantastic.

Ehhhh, it could also be useful if you're Wendy and only want to carry your Elder Sign, or a san/stam loss preventing spell or item (if you've already used your sign).
And you're forgetting a two handed weapon for a street sweeper.

I think it was the best part of the expansion because we where never happy with the origional unconscious/insane rule.
Even if we don't use the DH expansion we still use the madness and injuries cards. In that case we are aware you can never get rid of them either.
Dude, did you DH have some missing cards
? Since my DH Arkham Encounters for Hospital and Asylum had 1 card each where you might get to remove an Injury/Madness. Also seen an OW encounter that would allow a removal. Okay, so the odds of getting that encounter are bit iffy and IIRC, you have to pay $5 to roll a die, success, remove 1 card, failure, bad stuff (lose 2 Stamina/Sanity I think).
Actually, checking the AH wiki, seems there are 2 encounters for Asylum for a chance to remove a Madness. So 2 in 31 cards, 1 in 15 (ish) chance of that encounter, then 1/3 chance of rolling a success
.
What I ment was if you don't use the DH expansion (that is board and associated cards) but still use the Injury/Madness cards
But thanks for the odds, I was wondering about that
You remove Arkham Encounters with the DH icon when not using DH board
? I feel like for one, they don't reference anything on the other boards and for another, more Arkham Encounters per deck reduces the possibility of getting Retainer at Newspaper, etc., good kind of dilution. Also less chances of seeing the same encounter again and again.
I always leave the Arkham encounters cards in even if I'm not using an expansion board. On the very rare occasions when something comes up that specifically referances a board I'm not using (Rail Pass with no expansion boards, for instance) I just draw again.
