Rex!

By eldurand, in Star Wars: Legion

First off, let me say I know some do not believe the bearded commando in Ep. VI is Rex, but I do (as does Dave Filoni). And I believe one of the rebel figures in the core set is specifically modeled after him. Other than the paint job giving him a red beard, the pose and face are identical IMO. The similarities go beyond coincidence. So I am going to paint this guy up as Rex! ;)

The guy in the photo is not Rex, unless Rex underwent some pigment-altering treatment for his skin (Rex is a clone warrior. Cloned from Jango Fett. Who has very dark skin, as the actor is Maori).

But, yes, the model does look like "old Rex", and I would paint him as such, as well.

Pablo Hidalgo named that rebel soldier Rex to make him canon in the new... canon. It seems it was a request by Dave Filoni and the Lucasfilm story group agreed.

I am PERFECTLY fine with this retcon. Game on!

Yup! Works for me!

On another note that I thought was interesting. In one of the new books it mentions that Rebels, upon join, would change their names so that their families wouldn't be found and punished. The names that Rebel people chose were often taken from heroes of the rebellion. So the amount of Rebel operatives that were named Leia, Han, and Luke were very high following the battle of Yavin. I wouldn't put it past Rebels being named Rex, Sabine, Hera etc. either considering the prominence of Phoenix Squad. So whether that is THE Rex or A Rex is the question.

Except, apparently they've gone back on that so he is Nik Sant again.

The technically haven't said Nik Sant isn't Rex.

He could have changed his name for all we know.

It seems Filoni chose not to make it canon.. though that doesn't mean it might not happen.

I don't get why people like a throwaway santa claus pun over a character with actual meaning...

Agreed. I generally prefer the old EU over the new canon, but this is one change that makes sense, fits, and is just cool.
