Star Wars: Legions!

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing

Looks cool. Might get it.

Some discussion going on here:

I'm seriously disappointed that this was not a preassembled, prepainted, 1/270 scale game of atmospheric vehicular combat. Not an X-Wing tie in but still it's own thing.

I don't like modelling and I don't like painting. What I really don't want is to spend a fortune on large miniatures. That's why I quit Games Workshop.

That said those miniatures look great. If FFG don't charge a mortgage and left kidney for them I could commission a painter.

I'm both very disappointed and interested at the same time.

Perhaps a read of the article might sway me.

My one cringe here is that I'd have to paint the Troopers white. I love white stormtroopers, but white is a PITA to get to look good. I'll just have to give my troopers some actual camo or something.

Sweet! Wave XII article soon?

They lost me when I had to assemble and paint it.

yeah my buddy is trying it out right now at gencon.

Im not excited for this at all. For 3 very good reasons

1) Wtf you already have Imperial Assault...why didnt you just release an "expansion" to that to turn it into a regular wargame? That alone is going to piss a lot of people off as now they have to buy the SAME MODELS again (probably sculpted differently and new cards making it required)

2) It will compete with RWM, which they have been pushing hard the past few months. I can kiss RWM goodbye now, Starwars fanbase is HUGE in this area so getting people to play anythingthat isnt Starwars or 40k is nigh impossible. This is basically Starwars 40k where vehicles dont have complete movement freedom.

3) Another starwars title....meaning heavily HEAVILY limited design aspects available to them due to "canon" and Disney. Imagine if Xwing wasnt starwars, this game could be 4-5 factions large with so many unique functions and weapons...but starwars/disney says no.

Oh you poor people. You have to do what ever other wargame fan has to do...

Not tied to X-Wing? Don't care.

Or I could just not play it.

I already paint and assemble 40k. Sorry, not doing it for another game system. I tried getting into IA, couldn't. Not doing it here.

I will admit, the thought of painting several dozen white stormtroopers kinda scares me.
IF i get into this, which i am going to try and avoid this game like the plague unless it becomes dang near xwing level popularity in my area (still salty about rwm popularity...) i will more than likely go for a shining-black armor trooper. I'll just call them "Darth Vader's Chosen" or something

You could paint sand trooper armour? Or maybe tatooine dirty armour image_3f4de5de.jpeg?region=0,112,1920,10

The first painting video has been posted to YouTube. The first video covers painting Luke Skywalker.

I was so excited about the rumors, but that's not large-scale enough for me. It looks like it's slightly more than IA (why do they compete with themselves?).

What I wanted was Legion to IA like Armada to X-Wing.

Yeah, the more I think about this the more disappointed I get.

What I really wanted was something that could do the Battle of Hoth -- company-to-battalion level, AT-ATs, Air & Ground units. I want a game that fills in this blank: X-wing : Armada :: Imperial Assault : ___________.

Instead, this appears to be in the same space as IA skirmish. I play IA skirmish; it's a good game, and appropriate to the minis and mechanics. Now, if I can reuse my IA minis with this, I might pick it up. I do paint my IA minis, but I really don't want a game that expects assembly and painting. Nor do I want to start over buying something redudant in size & scale to the game I already have.

Plus I expect this to potentially cannibalize players from IA skirmish. So not only am I not encouraged to pick up this new game, but I'm potentially seeing a drop in the game I do play ... so I might end up dropping it too.

To be fair, its a demo. Demo games are usually 1/4 or so the normal game size.
You will probably play on twice the board space with 3x the models.

I will say that I am saddened by the lack of a compatible x-wing ground component with a proper scaled AT-AT that my x-wings could pew pew at.

Anyone questing why 40k and FFG no longer are friends ...

I hoped for a larger scale, not interested in squad level combat and lightsaber duels.

But you can't do a large scale ground game for OT purists because Rebels don't have ****. Even for this tiny stuff they had to use a prequel walker.

I assembled and painted Battletech Minis for years, not doing it again. They have the ability to make them pre-assembled and pre-painted, see the old SWM game. Now that is an idea, use them for this game.

No tanks?
No thanks.

Starterbox

Willing to bet ATST's and some mobile skimming vehicle with a jurryrigged cannon will pop up soon.
The scale makes me believe ATATs wont be a thing. They'd be absolutely massive or fugly scaled

If its 28mm, an AT-AT would be doable. Just only large games.

And when they are I'll look into it. Or Snowspeeders.
