Well, I quit...

By ryanabt, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, I suppose I can look at the silver lining of no new Armada announcement as more time to collect the older stuff I have yet to purchase before getting distracted by new shiny things.

Legion looks fine, but not having prepainted minis immediately makes it less desirable when I already own a pile of half-painted 40k, so I don't really see myself getting into it.

MC75 and a Resurgent class are my next purchases.

Either holding out for Wave VII, or buying Liberty and Arquitens next.

I'm torn on my next purchase. I really want an ISD, buthe I feel like the quasar or one more of each flotilla would do me better.

Irrelevant either way, as I start student teaching tomorrow and won't have regular income for the next 4 months....

"Try not to choke on your aspirations director D503." Haha.

Anyway I did like what you did there.

I have a kid on the way so no more armada purchases for a bit.

Congrates, that's great!

And last post. Haha

I want a second core set I basically want everything in it except I could take or leave a 4 the CR90. I won't spend $80-$100 though. Found it for 60 online but it went back up to 80ish and I think I missed my chance.

Also thinking a 3rd ISD eventually, maybe a second Home One and Pheonix Home. No real rush on any of these though. I'm content with where my collection is at for now.... Well kind of.

Been there before, keep at it!

What are you teaching?

Thanks! I'm hunkering down. Hoping to still have time to play toy spaceships.

8th Grade Earth Science for my teacher candidacy, after that....only The Shadow knows...

Awesome. I taught world civ at the sophomore level for 7 years. Love and miss teaching. Hope you enjoy it too.

I just picked up a second Home One (heavily discounted - now to put it into a list), and spent far too much (mainly on delivery) on replacement obstacles - one of my asteroids went missing. In hindsight I could have ordered a whole new Core Set for 2-3 times as much and either kept it or sold the rest on to people as needed.

For now, though, saving up for UK nationals; that could be expensive. And maybe some more X-Wing.

I do need to pick up some more sources of income, though... funnily enough, I'm looking into teaching. Something about the Government giving me £25k just to qualify...

Wait, what? How does that work?

The UK has a big problem with teacher morale. The Government's brilliant idea for fixing this is not to change anything about teaching as a whole, but to give people tax-free grants to qualify as teachers (varying by subject and degree class). If you've got a good degree in physics they'll give you £30k to qualify. Of course they're not increasing starting salaries, so you'll be earning potentially half that in the first year, and one-year drop-out rates are spectacular (partly, perhaps, because they're having to pay people to qualify - so people who may not really want to teach anyway). But that's current political theory for you.

Teaching may be a huge mess at the moment, but £25k is a lot of starships.

Having played exclusively Rebels for over a year I decided to drop a chunk of my bonus on picking up the Imperial side of the game as well, now I can play both. If only I had more than one person to play with. :)

So all you have to do is learn how to teach, become a qualified teacher, and the Gov gives you 25k in a lump sum? Or do you have to get a job and work in it for a while first?

I'm in a similar boat - 1 opponent. It's nice though, 'cause we always play casually and thus can fly whatever and still have fun.

You have to apply successfully to a teacher training course and (I imagine) go through with the it, but basically, yep. The bursaries are from £3k to £30k depending on subject and your qualification. There's no requirement to work in the field either before or after. If you're in a high-demand subject and have good qualifications they'll even pair you up with a personal advisor and everything. Unfortunately the actual training system is pretty terrible, they de-funded the work experience scheme, and the online application system is a mess - and actually being a teacher can still be pretty terrible. But fixing those is a lot harder than just throwing money at random people.

So, were I to do it, I apply through an agency to a teacher training course, get accepted, and graduate, and they pay me 3-30k depending on the field, demand, and my graduating grade. I could then either continue to be a teacher, or take the dough and go?

That seems like a really extravagant waste of money. How many millions are they spending on people who take the cash and never set foot in a classroom again?
