"Something Big is coming"

By CaribbeanNinja, in Star Wars: Armada

Possible bigs:

The white ISD from Rogue One, which would include Thrawn, and the MC-75. They're big ships after all, and Thawn in the game would be considered "big" by many fans.

Or

The first Epic for Armada, which would likely be the Resurgent Class. Though I'm fine with seeing that, I'm hoping FFG waits until after Episode IX when there'll be the "not battle of Endor" big fleets fight. Still, I wouldn't rule out the Resurgent as the first Epic. Actually, I'd prefer them to release it first so that they can see how well it performs before the one we truly want to see, and see in all it's game changing glory.

Or

Super Star Destroyer!!! I suspect if they had meant this they would have said "something huge". If an ISD is 8" this thing should be bare minimum 16". Even then it would probably look too small. I think between 20" and 24" should be the size at least.

I'm personally hoping that the Rogue One bigs are announced alongside the first Epic. That Epic being the SSD.

Save the sequel trilogy stuff for Episode IX.

I'm going to throw this one out. If not the SSD, what if they introduced a Scum faction?

No. Not yet. I want SSD and Squall Trilogy stuff first. Then mess things up with scum flying sauser From Hondo's pirates in The Clone Wars and that other corvettes thing they just put out for XWing.

SSD...? Alright, time to pick up a 6 foot ship from the store...

Any size you make it will be too big to bother moving it around to play, the ISD already pushes practical size limits.

I did the math a while back, and 28" should be the sweet spot for a sliding scale SSD, and would still be playable on the CC 6'x9' play area.

I fully believe that the CC Final conflict and the Pelta's command upgrade were integral in the SSD's and Epic rule's play testing & development.

does anyone here have space to play Epic Armada. 6x9 play field is absolutely ridiculous. It's probably more factions.

do you think it is too late for an annouce for us ??

Yes, there's no way they would make the X-Wing announcement at their panel and wait one day to do an Armada announcement. Force Friday is coming up, so that is a possible date for wave 7

I noticed that the minute I saw the upgrade on the Pelta and the card Entrapment Formation that had the SSD surrounded by Star Destroyers that they were headed in that direction. An SSD can also be seen on the TIE Defender card.

There was no reason for that new upgrade slot to me other than that they were testing it out for an SSD.

Other than putting it on the pelta, to mirror the offensive manipulation the experimental upgrade slot provides the Imperials.

True. But I feel like that card should apply to both sides. The empire wasn't full of incompetent commanders (though there were some). Besides should that slot have been on something more of a command ship, for instance an MC80 Command Cruiser?

X-wing epic ships work just fine on a 6x3 play area, and all of the models are larger than the ISD (possibly excepting the GR75). All of the bases too. Given the widespread Epic tournament scene at large events, the reality actually appears to be the opposite.

In the Rebels cartoon which gave us a plethora of models for armada and X-wing it was THE command ship.

Thus the command slot.

The command ship for a small rebel cell. Home One was THE command ship at endor. The Star Destroyer commanded countless operations. What makes Pelta so special other than needing game balancing.

If we get an SSD I can virtually gaurentee it will have that upgrade slot.

The point is a 6'x3' play area would only fit the SSD. It would take up that whole mat.

That would depend upon how big the SSD is and at which end you start at.

Just remember guys ONE Awing kamikaze'd into a spaceship what (is it 4 or 10 times) the size of an ISD and caused it to explode. ISDs and other ships have no guns, its impossible that cut footage of it being fired upon helped that lone Awing achieve its singular glorifying moment of bastardized Japanese WWII tactics.

And people are carting these out every week to play? Surely not.

I've also have never seen nor seen an announcement for an epic tournament within Toronto.

SSDs are 19km long, an ISD is 1.6km long. Meaning an SSD is 11.875 times longer than an ISD. If an ISD is 6" or so long in this game (isn't it longer?), an SSD would be 5.9375 feet long. Not difficult math. Even with a sliding scale, it is still way too big.

The bolded part is where this statement falls apart.

They could make an SSD that was only half again the length of an ISD and it would work fine. Just look at the size an ISD would have to be compared to the size of the CR-90 - and yet we have it.

You do know that you can just enjoy playing FFG games for fun right? If not, you're missing the whole reason these games are set in the SW universe. It may be fun at tournaments but the thought of Reb v Reb or Imp vs Imp in the SW universe is just.....wrong. I may play it, but that fact itself means that you're just playing a ruleset and not embracing the theme.

SSD would be cool... but I'd rather see First Order and Resistance or Clone Wars... though probably not likely

The reason the game is set in the SW universe is allow it to make a greater revenue. It could just as easily be any space ships, even generic, it would just make less money given the rabid SW fanbase that exists, and may as well be exploited.

Well, I don't know about rabid . But certainly some have been known to bite.

I have heard several people mention force Friday and a possible announcement then. When and what is that?

Calling it now: the "big" thing is a supernova. We're getting the Suncrusher, not the Executor.

Trust.

No. Just no. :D
