Here's a question I've been wondering for a while. Do people really actually care bout Meishodo? As far as I recall, it's not even mechanically distinct from typical "kami magic". Why the big stink?

I definitely don't feel strongly about it. I'm just bored at work and want to make a stink in show of support for my ponies.

Yes, by picking up another toy you know nothing about and claiming to being able to wield it. Like Maho.

Yes, because we always know better.....

Mixture of RP and teasing of my phoenix friends.

I shall admit that there is a bit of a jump there, and we are making some assumptions about exactly how much prior knowledge/research the Elemental Masters have to go on. I, obviously, tend to believe that they did not just leap onto meishodo for no reason. They were thinking that there was something odd going on and trying to determine what to do about it at just about the time the Ishiken sensei received her vision. It gave them a bit of a clue where to look and allowed them to start doing something.

I'd be happier if we knew a bit more about when things started to go weird.

^_^ I'm sure you do, my phoenix friend. but let it be known that Meishodo is in the Imperial capitol not by our hands. In fact, non of the Unicorn were even advising the Emperor in this matter.

I like to get IC on L5R stuff.

I always felt that , given the description, it ought to have been more mechanically distinct, and would have used the Sahir rules from LBS if anyone wanted to be a meishodo wielder in a campaign I ran.

And the Phoenix did not want it in anybodies hands... we warned you all

Clearly, cuz if we were being rational it would make far more sense for the Seppun to send a representative to us. Keeps the potential bomb at arm's length. But then again, that wouldn't give them a hostage, would it?

And this is what you're warnings brought. If you had not tried to strike it down, it would have stayed far away from the Emperor. It was your hubris that brought this outcome, not ours.

Hey, that wasn't our idea either: Ishikawa came up with that; and the Dragon, Crane, Crab and Scorpion carried it out.

:D

I have lost track of which phoenix I was having this discussion with.

I'll refer to my previous in character bit.

But it would not have stayed out of the Empire... thats all on you...

Easily confused Unicorn.... :)

for many hundreds of years before and after our return it has not caused problems. Only when the Phoenix decide to get involved do things go awry.

I'll let you into a secret. Mostly I just look at avatars, and the current paucity of L5R ones sometimes leads to confusion on my part. I need to get a Dragonfly mon.

:P Perhaps.

And after all this fancy and extremely interesting metaphysical discussion, it's worth to point out that the obvious result of all this mess is Shahai becoming Shoju's concubine. That was the plan from the beginning...

Every other mon needs googly eyes, makes it easier to keep track of participants XD

It was always awry... it was only when the Phoenix pointed out the awryness... the everybody saw the awryness, was awry!

 Worse when I just read the first word in a name, all the L5R names get me confused too.

I think you just wanted to say awry, a lot.

I mean, someone has to keep an eye on her, Scorpion will take care of that

TBH I'd rather no one be the full "villains", though I'm still fine with being the main point of contention. At least for this first conflict it seems FFG are doing a decent job of making it not quite so cut and dried... at least with all the debate being had XD

I'd prefer Unicorn always being a beacon of hope and compassion, magistrates to the Emperor and all that stuff (and no Kolat). Realistically, we need conflicts to drive the game's narrative so I'm fine with "Let me be your arc's villain" if that was the case. Which I don't think it's really the case.

I do believe that the Unicorn have no ill intentions with meishodo and if there is some interference with the kami of other lands, they do not know about it (or are trying to figure out why*). I do believe that Phoenix do have good intentions in general with the whole meishodo thing. I do believe that allowing the Hidden Guard to learn about meishodo makes sense when you are bound to protect the Emperor of any menace. I do believe that everyone in Rokugan is following their destinies, some great, others dark.

* why not ask the Phoenix for help? Because Rokugani are quite close minded due to traditions. As the recent fiction points out, no one likes to share secrets.

May he was reading Gaunt's Ghosts: "Something's awry,"
