Snap Shot Swarms

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've got a couple of Snap Shot swarms I'm thinking of trying - any advice would be welcome:

First Order 'Snap Swarm'

  • Omega Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot, Primed Thrusters
  • Omega Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot, Primed Thrusters
  • Omega Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot, Primed Thrusters
  • Omega Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot, Primed Thrusters
  • Omega Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot, Primed Thrusters

Doesn't have any 'gimmicks' to hang off the snap shots (which is a problem) but does get 5 of them, and can segnor/barrel roll to put them in wierd places.

Empire 'Snap Swarm'

  • Mauler Mithel - Snap Shot
  • Black Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot
  • Black Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot
  • Black Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot
  • Black Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot
  • Black Squadron Pilot - Snap Shot

Even less sophisticated. But gives a lot of warm bodies for blocking with - something that I suspect pairs very well with massed snap shots; if you can theoretically block someone and leave them stuck in the arc of 4-5 snap shots plus a similar number of range 1 shots in the combat phase, I don't care what you are, you're going home in a bucket.

Empire 'Snap Aces'

  • Mauler Mithel - Snap Shot
  • Scourge - Snap Shot
  • Pure Sabbac - Adaptive Ailerons, Snap Shot, Lightweight Frame
  • Major Rhymer - TIE Shuttle, Snap Shot, Tactician, Operations Specialist/Rebel Captive/Hotshot Copilot, Lightweight Frame

Operations Specialist is an obvious one for these guys; with massed snap shots, you can theoretically generate a fountain of free focus tokens - which means in turn that the TIE fighters and striker can use their actions to either barrel roll or evade. On the other hand, Rhymer is the clear primary target here given his ability, so Rebel Captive might be a nice way of keeping him safe (or at least making people pay for shooting at him). Hotshot copilot is somewhere between the two.

The only other idea I had was throwing Rhymer (as above) into the empire Snap Swarm - drop the second crew (whatever you would take) and he can replace 2 Black Squadron Pilots, leaving Mithel and 3 Black Squadron pilots as a 'screen' with the TIE/br following behind throwing stress at anyone trying something fancy.

Thoughts? Experiences? Recommendations re Rhymer's second crew?

OpSpec is amazing if you have a ton of snapshots, ive done that with 4 snapblacks and him. (The 4snapblacks + Rhymer build was specifically designed to counter Fenn btw, and oh MAN does it counter him)

Opponent flies into my face and i get 3 snapshots. Rhymer snaps, its R2 so hes stressed now. Rhymer misses, assigns a focus to one TIE fighter
First TIE snaps, misses, OpSpec assigns a focus to another TIE fighter
Second TIE snaps, causes 1 damage.

Long as you are in a 1-2 range bubble (easy to do), you benefit from a snapshot whether it hits or not. Only list i faced that gave me crap was a doubleghost list (too fat)

Is my jam; I've flown that all through the SC session and made the cut with it a couple of times.

Things i've learnt, you want rebel captive, it seriously puts off incoming fire and if someone shots at you; Rhymer is fulfilling his purpose in life. Lightweight is an auto include.

Don't use that focus; for offence; that ship isn't an offence ship, it's there to stress, nothing else, nothing more.

Down sides I know; You need some offensive fire power to compensate for the Rhymer.

I teamed up with a Delta and Vessery; the Delta moving at PS1 as a blocker helped keep Fenn's, Poe's, dengar's in that R2 bubble. Other great effects of this build it shuts down, Expertise, Action Bombs, Slam Action, Boost and Barrel rolls.

Pure Sabbac could be good as he as the teeth you would need, but once he's gone the list goes from "Difficult" mode all the way up to "Hardcore". That's why i chose to go Defenders as, even the PS1 delta has teeth. (both x7).

I've recently swapped out the Delta for Double Edge with an Ion Cannon, this has proven a tough list for nym and other bomber style lists. As they had stress, and Ion stops the reveal bombs (which I think I learnt from one of your post Magnus Grendel )
