Final Gencon standings

I just want to know what the fleet that won looked like

What I remember it had was this.

MC-80 - I think w/ Defiance and Ackbar - ECM, Intel officer, and?

4 X GR-75 - some with coms net. Leia on 1

4 X VC-100

Jan Ors

i forget the rest

Ah, 5 activation. That makes sense. I was getting some false hope worked up, there, on page 1 seeing a 3-activation list having some success. But, I mean... obviously that wasn't going to fly...

i have to be misunderstanding what stops someone from murdering jan.

Makes sense, I guess it was farming missions. Advanced Gunnery/Fire Lanes/Sensor Net can be pretty devastating there.

Counter 2 and the fact that by murdering Jan one wasn't murdering VCXses that were a real threat there.

Por que no los dos?

Tie up the VCXs while you murder Jan's face off. An unprotected Jan goes down suuuuper quick, so you position the fighters that are jumping her such that once she's down, they're engaging the VCXs.

I've run into this approach a few times and it's never panned out for my opponent. In every iteration I've seen, it's a risky strategy that gambles on not running into a well-executed squadron counter (absent any other data that we might be missing about his list specifically, like a strong X-wing escort for example).

I would love to see a batrep on this, as well as the specifics of the fleet...

From what I saw, 2nd place was just 2 ISDs, not 3 activations.

2nd place beat Matt and my list by 42 points. Apparently Matt won the fighter battle, but messed up and didn't have Steele farming Superior Position tokens early enough. Oh well.

My biggest takeaway from this tournament is that with Reekien gone, the list diversity has gone way up.

Good showing everyone, let's keep this game going.

Rieekan is actually still really good, you just need to control tempo, or as the opponent control tempo such that you kill multiple things at a time. Counter play exists now, but in the right hands still a very potent commander. Hardly 'gone'.

"Gone" speaks merely to his presence or lack thereof, it doesn't necessarily mean he's unplayable or ruined. He's just not omnipresent anymore.

The fact that he wasn't in every one of the top lists speaks volumes about the state of the game. He's definitely good, he's just no longer an omnipotent zombie lord.

If I'm not mistaken, Justin @Brikhause brought basically the same Rieekan/GH/aces he's been playing pretty much since Wave 2 dropped, and ended up in fifth. So, yeah, Rieekan is still a thing.

Edit: not saying you're wrong, just pointing out that he does still show up. :)

In the hands of a good player he's still a pain in the *** like he always was, but I guess now with Sloane around he's no longer a no-brainer choice in the competitive scene.
