Obi Wan film CONFIRMED*

Ergo why it would be difficult to pull off for a whole movie - that would limit him to basically just dealing with the small-time locals around Owen and Beru's farm.

Certainly no Imperial Inquisitors hunting him down would know him only as 'Ben'. Nor anyone else in the galaxy at large that he'd interacted with during the Clone Wars. I mean, heck - even on Tatooine - Jabba the Hutt met him during the Clone Wars and would know him as Obi-Wan.

An Inquisitor doesn't have to know who he is at all. All they'd have to know is that there is a force user. To up the anti, a Jedi, but they don't have to know which one.

Jabba is big enough that Obi-Wan could deal with his organization without ever coming in contact with the boss himself. And there are other, smaller gangs he could deal with as well.

If there has to be someone pulled in from his past, they could simply refer to him as "Kenobi", like Maul did in Rebels. A little cheap, but workable. I personally think it could be interesting having a reunion between Obi-Wan and Cody after Order 66, but even then Cody would likely refer to Obi by his last name or "General".

I really hope it's not about him looking at Luke's house with binocs for two hours.

That's only the first hour. The second hour is Yoda eating beans.

I imagine it will be like Arrow...

"Luke I watched over you for 19 years on Tatooine.*

*Except for that 18.5 years I was hopping around the galaxy from planet to planet having adventures that no one ever mentions. Let me tell you about it in flashback..."

It would still fit with canon I believe. In A New Hope, Obi-Wan has this exchange with Luke:

<spoiler>

Ben Kenobi: [to Luke] You must learn the ways of the Force if you're to come with me to Alderaan.
Luke Skywalker: Alderaan? I'm not going to Alderaan. I've got to go home. It's late, I'm in for it as it is.
Ben Kenobi: I need your help, Luke. She needs your help. I'm getting too old for this sort of thing.

</spoiler>

This last bit could be interpreted as him implying that he has been doing... "things".

Or maybe He has a thing for aunt beru and is trying to get some blue milk?

LOL!!!

I enjoyed the Kenobi novel, which explains how he sets up on Tatooine to watch Luke and has some adventures with locals, Jawas, and Sandpeople.

I could go for a movie version -- very "Western" in flavor.

And speaking of Westerns ... Boba Fett done Yojimbo / Man With No Name style would be excellent.

Willrow Hood and the ice cream machine: a Star Wars story.

The whole "I haven't gone by Obi Wan since before you were born" is a crock anyway. One more lie he told Luke. He never went by anything at all except Obi Wan until he was a wanted fugitive from the two most powerful people in the Galaxy. Then he went by no name or whatever some local called him and somehow it turned into Ben. In a stand alone movie, just have him be called whatever, or better yet, have a scene where he is asked his name and he makes up Ben on the spot(he did use Ben once during the clone wars when he was undercover in the republic prison as Rako Hardeen)

This is my 4-year old's favorite quote for about 6 months. He says it every time he enters a new room.

Hah hah, that's real cute.

My 4 year old likes to cross his arms and say: "Don't like it Mummy!"

Haha...

Another problem with a movie set in this period is dialog from Episode IV.

"Kenobi: [thoughtfully] Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan... Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.
Luke Skywalker: I think my uncle knows him. He said he was dead.
Kenobi: Oh, he's not dead. Not yet.
Luke Skywalker: You know him?
Kenobi: But of course I know him. He's me.
Kenobi: I haven't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since... oh, before you were born."

They did carefully adhere to that in Episode III and his appearance in the 'Rebels' TV series - after Luke is born, nobody calls him Obi-Wan anymore. Which is fine and good for the brief appearances he'd had in those spots, but for a whole movie? Ehhhhh....

Just call the movie "Kenobi". We all know what that means. Have him struggle with his new life, from basically highest ranking General of the Republic and Councilmember Obi-Wan to lonely crazy old Ben.

They could even add some "origins" type story where we see how he was trained, expand on the teachings of Quigon, maybe even show us Anakin again?

So many possibilities, and the crazy thing is: I would be happy with him meditating on Tatooine xD

edit: stupid forum...

To be honest, I could see using him as a toshiro mifune-esque 'ragged warrior' ambling around tatooine. Yojimbo worked perfectly well as a western, this would just be a western with aliens and swords....

I'd agree that putting him up against the local crime syndicates would work, but it feels somehow anticlimactic. Whilst Rogue One is the story of making something epic happen (stealing the plans to the death star), Kenobi is the story of making sure nothing whatsoever of significance happens.

Unless something did happen, in which case you're going to have to write around it carefully.

  • I'm getting too old for this sort of thing could indeed be taken to mean that stuff has happened
  • Luke does know who 'old ben' is and roughly where to find him, so he has met him before
  • Uncle Owen really reacts badly to Kenobi's name being mentioned. It's possible there's a reason behind this more than just his history with Anakin.

My brain is now essentially roughly recasting "for a fistful of dollars" with Jabba and [other criminals] playing the part of the Baxters and the Rojos, the Imperials playing the part of the army, and the Tusken sandpeople tribes cast as bandits/native americans (i.e. the gun/whisky customers off camera in the original), with tosche station and environs (including the lars homestead) playing San Miguel.

If an inquisitor reported to the empire "we've found Obiwan Kenobi", then he'd have the Asthmatic in Black turning up so fast it'd be unbelievable, I suspect.

Obi-Wan fighting Jabba's Bounty Hunters. All I need to see.

That's partially shown in the comics when the black Wookie shows up.

Ah. I've seen Krrstan in 'Vader' but so far only having him sent after the cyborg guy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Vader wouldn't be stopped by sand for this one :P

It could be about Obi-Wan solving local gang trouble... leaving no witnesses as the Empire might look deeper in the "Tatooine Lightsabre Massacre".

It gets all in his suit... Notice he never went down to Tattoine.

Western-type movie with bountyhunters? Hm...

Not just in his suit... it's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. :P
