Overlord-Class Command Cruiser for Epic and HOTAC endgame content!

By Refugeanoth, in X-Wing

The Overlord-class command cruiser was a clear attempt by imperial high command to carry the design philosophy of their far larger Imperial-class star destroyers down to the smaller ships in the fleet, and functioned effectively as a "star destroyer with training wheels" for crew and captains on track to assignment aboard one of the larger destroyers. The Overlord and her sistership, the Omen-Class Interdictor with which she was designed, were a direct response to the rebel alliance and their success with small fighters using hit and run tactics. The Overlord was designed to be the core of anti-fighter battle groups that comprised of the command cruiser, a single Omen-class Interdictor and a pair of Raider-class corvettes, who could effectively and quickly seek out and destroy or capture the enemy ships that would normally be able to retreat from larger battle groups. These groups were often operated in conjunction with imperial special forces to capture and interrogate alliance pilots and would operate largely independent of the standard imperial command structure, far from the core where the alliance and other disreputables preferred to operate . Due to the similarity to the superstructure of a standard Imperial-class star destroyer, the Overlord could operate using many of the same tactics (although scaled down significantly) and was often referred to by admirals in the high command as a "pocket" star destroyer. Her armament was suited primarily for anti-fighter duty, with 8, 8 barrel heavy laser cannon turrets in place of the barbette turbolaser batteries found on her much larger sibling. These weapons, along with multiple, modular weapon systems hidden beneath slide-away panels across the ships hull, allowed the Overlord to make short work of all but the most durable craft fielded by the alliance. The first of the battlegroups in which the Overlord saw action became operational in the Aturi cluster shortly after the battle of Yavin and underwent trails in that sector.

20 hull and 20 shield per section with 4 sections, multiple attacks per turn, ludicrous firepower. Your basic boss battle nightmare ship :)

Sweet! :D

Picture next to a Raider for comparison?

I'll take one when I get home, it's a little over twice as long as a raider.

 Thanks! I'm going back and forth over whether I should add some guns to it or not.

You mean like those on the interdictor?
Personally I'd go for it, because they look great on the interdictor. Maybe it's not as good in the mini ISD because we are so used to the larger proportion?

Yeah, I have a couple dozen of those same guns leftover from my hammerhead corvette project. I've also got some xtra battlefield in a box space station laser turrets I might slap on it with magnets so they can be removed if need be.

Magnets! That's clever

I actually glued some to the inside of the hull during assembly in places I thought I might mount turrets :P

Looks awesome. I built the same thing and our paint schemes look eerily similar

I mounted mine on 2 Litko Huge Ship stands set up in a T formation.

Thanks and that's Awesome! Got a gallery to it anywhere? I'm probably going to use the same mount I used for the Omen for this if I can find myself another perfect grade gundam stand :P

I really need to finally set up an Imgur acct to do it. Once tried Google's photo box, but could not get it to work. Also need to down load Strange Eons to make cards. But , ya know, life. . .

I got ya dude. Let me know when you load it I'd love to see!

First pass at the stats and dial. She's gonna be a freaking unholy nightmare!

Hey @Refugeanoth @Darth Meanie I just placed an order for one of these literally 60 seconds ago. Can't wait. Was it challenging to put together? The literature indicates master level modeling.

I have nothing to compare it to since it was my first true model. I wouldn't say it was particularly difficult at all really.

Super easy. Made for kids, really. You don't need glue (although I used it) and technically you are not supposed to need to paint it (although obviously we did).

I wonder, though, given the parts discrepancy above, if there are 2 versions of this kit.

I think there are. One is a Revell snaptite and the other is the Revell (Zvezda) 1/2700 model.
