Last ship is destroyed

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

This may be one of those things I'm just plain wrong about....

Played a game the other day. Blew up my opponent's last ship - reached in to shake his hand and he said "The squadrons still have to activate.". I was confused... basically we went back and forth about when the last ship is destroyed, his entire fleet is lost and he said that they changed the rule a long time ago, that squadrons could activate even with no ships left. Gene ally I try to do a pretty good job of getting the rules right, but I'm not perfect so I conceded that I would look it up afterward. Sure enough I couldn't find anything about it in the FAQ - so I bring it to you guys.

Anyone know of a time or place where they've changed a rule to allow squadrons to still be able to activate after all ships are destroyed?

Yep.

In the tournament Rules.

(Tournament regulations, Text only, Page 16)

End of Round

Each tournament round ends in one of the following ways: • One Player Defeated: At the end of a game round, all of one player’s ships are destroyed. The player with at least one ship remaining earns a win and the opposing player receives a loss.

But that's it :D

It wasn't put anywhere else.

Here's the trick though.

It just happens to be one of those situations where, basically, everything we have rules wise beyond the base rulebook, is for tournament games... Even the FAQ is the "Tournament" FAQ. So technically, they would not apply to a casual game unless you state its going to work with tournament rules.

The Flipside of that is, if you use any rules or rulings from the FAQ, you really need to accept and use all of them, and that includes the caveat in the tournament rules that the game doesn't end until the end of the round when all ships of one side are destroyed.

The assumption is that your games of Armada are either going to be straight-out-of-rulebook games, or they're going to conform to the Tournament regulations... The FAQ only applies to the tournament side of things (as it is A Tournament FAQ)

So basiaclly, you're both right :)... It just depends on the framework of the game.

Thanks for that. I guess it's really never come up before, or at least not where it would have made a points difference....

So what you're saying Dras is that if I want to ignore that SQNs can activate after all the ships have been destroyed, I can also use Rhymer at Close-Medium!?

Of course. But you have to agree with your opponent that is the case, it must be outside of the tournament system, and you must believe that ignorance is bliss..

& hope that your opponent doesnt have a reprint of rhymer thats close only........
