I don't believe any clan has been actually destroyed. Displaced and under represented? Yes. Left less powerful? Yes. Destroyed and removed from existence? I don't think so. Am I wrong?

No

In hiding or in exile doesn't count .

Well, their mon was removed from every visible place and their clan announced disbanded. At least in the Seven scrolls book series.

No

No. Only time I can think of an actual removal of a "great" clan though.

Hmmm... I supose that first 7 deluxe expansions are upgrades to one clan each... Like they are in other lcgs that have factions. Netrunner and Games of thrones.

After that maybe story driven.

Other than one devoted to each Clan, plus any new faction they want to add, I think the formula is not to keep adding more and more deluxes. Consider that deluxes are as evergreen as the core set. It wouldn't make no sense to keep increasing the permanent pool of cards.

Put me in the camp of hoping to see more factions in future expansions. I need my Naga and Ratlings to come back, and I have a buddy who still mourns the loss of the monk stronghold.

More factions do sound like fun, but there is a major limitation. You can't have more than 10 "official" factions, because there are only 10 Seeker/Keeper roles. So while I expect to see "minor" factions to splash, I don't think we could ever have more than 10 "real" factions.

Hmm. That's true.

Though you could possibly have a faction that isn't affiliated with nor works with Keeper/Seeker roles at all... and you can call them Shadowlands. ????? ?

/inb4 Dark Rings with their Dark Seekers and Dark Keepers

Actually 9. If you have 10, 1 faction may end up stuck with the same role.

I think for Deluxe expansions, I'd rather see a non-Clan theme that generally expands all of the existing Clans. Out of the gate, I think they could really use a magic expansion - although there are a few shugenja characters, there is only a handful of "spell" cards and the overall fantasy aspect to the setting is toned down compared to the original version - it feels more like wuxia samurai. A lot of that is due to the limited card pool (the original Imperial edition with a card pool of over 300 had several dragons, a kitsune, multiple naga, oni, goblin cards, as well as a fair number of spells and magical artifacts). Given the direction that the first cycle is taking, I don't expect to see much expansion of fantasy elements in this cycle, so we'll probably have to wait til at least the next cycle or the first Deluxe xpac to see anything.

I dunno, we have a powerful shugenja and a Goblin already revealed for the first pack, in a cycle supposedly focused on "imperials" with magistrates and Imperial Favor mechanics (only 1 card like that revealed so far). It may not be an overwhelming number of cards, but even so that's 10% of the pack. Keep that trend up, and we're looking to add about a dozen or so cards over the next cycle with a fantasy element. The tough thing will be whether there's more included for other clans, or if it continues to be a Phoenix/neutral focus. I would definitely be surprised though if there isn't at least 1 Nezumi card in this cycle, either as a neutral or even as a Crab character.

Which card? I think I have missed that spoiler...

Sorry, I was speaking of magistrates and Imperial Favor mechanics collectively. The card I was referring to is the Swift Magistrate, which I can only assume is one of several coming in this cycle. Only mention of the cards focused on the Imperial Favor mechanic is a brief description of the cycle included in the article, no cards with such mechanics spoiled afaik.
